Upgrade problems with Windowblinds 6

Thursday, January 7, 2010 by TamsNails | Discussion: Windows 7

Hi All!

I have an hp Pavillion dv6t laptop I purchased in Sept '09. I am eligible for HP's upgrade to Win 7 for N/C. I am now having problems with Windowblinds and the upgrade's insistence in removing before I can upgrade. I have gone through the entire registry a million times, and all the little places it might be in Windows Explorer. Deleted all, emptied recycle bin, rebooted and it still says I cannot continue with upgrade until I remove all of Windowblinds! I'm going out of my mind!!! Anyone else have this problem? And anyone have any suggestions?

Thank sooooooo much,

Tammy

I upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I didn't get any notice to uninstall WindowBlinds.  One thing I did though do was reset the skin back to default.  I have Object Desktop so I in fact reset everything that change things like icons, cursor and what have you back to default before running the Win 7 update.

Don't know if this little bit of information will help.

EDIT:  Just noticed you are talking about WB 6, I had WB 7 installed, sorry.  If you reset the skin back to default before uninstalling you might want to try a clean up program like CCleaner, and use the Registry clean up function.

You could try the ODNT Zapper utility to see if it will remove any traces of WindowBlinds.

Thanks for all your replys...after I posted, I went offline during the upgrade install, and just kept hammerin' away at the registry and Windows Explorer. I ended up getting it all out by doing a search of " wb*.* " and went through each piece by piece and the 7 install finally proceeded. But I sure do appreciate the suggestions! I will use them on my son's laptop if I run into the same problems!!  THANKS!!!!!!!!!
