Ideas for a Community Theme Project - Valentines Day Edition
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 by Philly0381 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Okay folks, taking up from where Island Dog left off, Ideas for a Community Theme Project - Holiday Edition, I thought it would be nice to continue this with a Valentines Day Theme.
I haven't jumped out here and taken responsiblity for much of anything so i thought it would be nice to take the lead for a ommunioty project for a Holiday Theme.
What do you say?
My idea, subject to further input from the community.
Valentines Day Theme Pack with a Dream as being the core for the Theme
This would include at the minimum: (updated to show skin volunteers)
•WindowBlinds theme (for XP, Vista and Win 7) - k10w3
•DesktopX Theme - RedneckDude
•DesktopX Widgets - RedneckDude
•CursorFX theme - Vampothika
•Dream - CarGuy1
•Rainlendar - RedneckDude
•RightClick Skin - Nimbin
•ScreenSaver Skin (based on the Dream) - CarGuy1
•Icons (IP or just some dock icons) - Vampothika
•Object Dock backgound - RedneckDude, DisturbedComputer
•Wallpaper (based on the Dream) - CarGuy1
•Logons (based on the Dream) - CarGuy1
•BootSkins (based on the Dream) - CarGuy1
(If you would like to do a skin that is not listed please leave a comment on the thread)
At the end this would all be wrapped up in a Theme Manager suite, I have to do something.
We need ideas for a unique name plus design ideas for the Dream. If someone is all ready working on a Dream, all the more better.
Now, I'm a non-skinner so you folks need to let me know if there is enough time to pull this together for Valentines day. We are only talking a little more than five weeks as we should have it done in time for folks to use the theme. In that line of thinking the Theme probably should not just say Happy Valentines Day in words but show more of what Valentines Day means between two people who care about one another, if that makes sense.
Okay, so lets hear your thoughts.

You just can't be satisfied, can you? lol (joking)
I don't use, or have it installed....again, no need if you have DX.
Disturbed Computer....I like your docks, but they really don't seem to match the blind very well. Maybe if your screenshot was done with the windowblind running? Just a thought....

I hope that makes sense, it may not be the only way to do it, but the only way I know.
Here's the quickest, easiest way to cut things out in Photoshop that I learned. Make the shape with custom shapes as a new layer (i.e., that blue part). Next, add a blank, transparent layer and merge that with the shape layer (keeping that above the base layer...the one that you want to cut the shape out of). Next, hit control and cllick the thumbnail with the shape (top layer) in the layers panel -- that will select the shape. You might have to expand that selection a pixel, depending on how big your document is, then just hit the delete key on the keyboard and BAM....you used the blue shape as a cookie cutter!

Make the shape with custom shapes. did
Make the shape with custom shapes as a new layer only know how to make new layer wit the icon at bottom so I copyed the layer by draging it to the Icon so I some what did but not the blue I deleted it cuase it did not let me cut it out
Next, add a blank, transparent layer and merge that with the shape layer (keeping that above the base layer...the one that you want to cut the shape out of). I if done it right just clicked on file then new but did not merge and my new trans Red was bigger then my hole so I had to use the eraser to erase the over hang did keep it on top oh and I used the move tool and moved it to the old canvas tried to use the mask tool to hide the over lap of the trans Red but I could not got it to work for me this tine I have used the Mask befor but it was step-by-step direction
Next, hit control and cllick the thumbnail with the shape (top layer) in the layers panel -- that will select the shape. You might have to expand that selection a pixel, depending on how big your document is, then just hit the delete key on the keyboard and BAM did not do any of this so as you can see I tell the trush at how I don;t know what I am doing.. Thanks for the tip hopefully I well remember but i know I wont so is good for me that this will go into my replies... learned most of what i know from Pixel perfect but now bert monroy is no longer doing the show..
thanks k10w3 and redneckDude for your help
luckly I can only get better

Okay Ladies and Gentlmen we are in the home stretch now. If anyone is having problems with their skins this is the time to seek help. By this time next week you should be in the position to upload the themed skins so they will make it through moderation and be in the libraries no later than the 7th.
Please make the the name of your skins My Dirty Valentine follow by the skin type like DX Theme if you wish. This will make it easier for members to find them.
It has been very enjoyable to work with you all on this community project, everyone should be proud of their time and effort.

Lets do this again, real soon. ![]()

I sent links to a few others on the project, not sure if everyones checked it out yet.
I'm still working on the color banding issue but with Doc's help I just about have it solved. That being the case, what I sent may not be the final versions.
