if window is maximized shouldn't DeskScapes pause?

Thursday, December 10, 2009 by MichaelG04 | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

i'm pretty sure in older versions it would pause if you maximized a window on your desktop.  i'm running windows 7 and wonder why this is no longer the case?  i can see it running through the taskbar, which in turn can slow things down a bit.

how do you fix this?

thanks.

Good question Michael. It hasn't paused for me on 32 bit Vista for a long time but as you said,it did at one time. It would be nice if it did,no sense in DS running if you can't see it.

You make good sense, Michael04, but then how would it 'know' to restart after closing or minimizing a window?

The same way it should know to pause when the reverse is true, Doc.

i don't know, but thats how it use to work, i believe in version 1 and 2, not to mention the big negative impact this would have on gaming.  having to disable deskscapes before i game manually

There seems to be some confusion here.

Deskscapes will automatically pause when you play a game.  There is no need to disable it before you game.

Deskscapes will also usually pause when the foreground window is maximized, however this is only the case on single monitor systems.  If you have multiple monitors it will not.  Pausing or not has very little impact on system performance when you have a maximized window unless you are running a very cpu intensive dream.

hmmm, weird, i've always had dual monitor setups, and i remember it use to pause on them as well.  when i would have a window maximized on one monitor, the dream would freeze on the other and i always said to myself, that dream looks like crap paused.  it did work in the past, it doesn't now

Neil, so why the change then from old versions where it would pause on multiple monitors?

I am using a single monitor (IBM 2237 C71 CRT) and it does not pause when a window is maximized. Even back as far as when "Froggy" was released,May 12,2008, it did not pause as I could hear and see it running in the background. This has occured on two different  rigs. One with Vista Home Basic then Ultimate, one Ultimate only.

This is mainly a FYI since it causes no problems. I seldom used DS before but that is changing. The software and dreams keep getting better and better so I find myself using it more now so I thought I would mention it.

i also notice it doesn't pause on battery now, it asks me if it wants enable deskscapes on battery mode, i say no and it keeps on going LOL.  i think the pause function is broken entirely now?  also, neil, could you please answer my other question?

thanks
