Which version was installed, lou? I would suggest rolling back to 3.5....I recommend you uninstall what you have, go into Impulse and UNCHECK Beta/pre-release versions. Then close and reopen Impulse. The last fully tested and working version should appear. Install that.
This is basically what Jim (RedneckDude) came up with in another thread.
I have not installed the update 3.89[b].042
I asked in another thread if this was the problematic update. I ask it again.
I also think this thread should be moved to the Desktop X Support category where it might catch the eye of Curt or the other support folks. In that spirit, I think you should send an email to [email protected] and include this thread's url. If you can use stardock irc I would suggest logging on if the problem is severe/acute.

Do you have DesktopX Pro?

lou, you can tell the version in Impulse very easily...just click on your DesktopX under the My Software tab and just mouse over the button in the lower right corner.
If it's the one in my response #2, I'd say do the roll back I described. If you have DesktopX Pro, it might be a different problem, and I'd defer to Jim on that one as I don't have Desktop X Pro.

I'm using DesktopX4 on a Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit system with no problem, granted it's not the same OS as yours.
I would suggest opening Impules, click on My Software and right click on DeskstopX4 and verifly installation. If it isan't installed correctly is will give you an update to load. If that still doesn't work, unintall, run a clean up program, turn off your A/V and security, sometimes this interfers with dwonloading. Reboot and try a fresh install. That should clear things up. If not then roll back to the non-beta version as described above. If you still have problems then something else is the problem.

Just about anything. The most common things are weather, calendar, clock and system metrics widgets, but you can use "themes" as well, which apply a bunch of widgets, wallpaper, docks to put your shortcuts on, and other things, depending on which theme you use. Visit the DesktopX galleries, and you'll get an idea. Try redneckdude's gallery for skinned themes, Vad_m especially to see all the things that are possible.

loukeeya,a good place to start with RND's themes is here and here.
BTW,tried the beta again, builder mode launches fine, the Welcome(the "normal" DX launcher on my dock) or trying to launch any widget by clicking on it's exe still gives the ODZip error. This cripples my access to the software. Starting the widget manager just to load a widget is an extra step I don't need so I rolled back once again. I can wait til the bug is squashed.
Have fun.
