One of Object Dock Plus's many uses

Found a new way to use it

Thursday, November 12, 2009 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Docks

Hi gang, and no I'm not using Object Dock Plus as a hat, as someone suggested.

I've have used a Zoomer and Tabbed dock now for a while but never really saw the need for a third dock untill recently.  I've been putting Theme Manager Suites together based upon WindowBlinds Themes.  There are always folks from the community making additional skins to go with them with usually one exception a clock.  You can find lots of DX clock widgets or objects to use but they don't always fit in.

My fix, add an additional dock to the desktop, in my case a second zoomer, put a clock docklett on it and get rid of the other dockletts.  Now go apply the Themed background to the dock.  Now it matches the theme.  Move the dock around to where you want it.  Work great, even get the day and date on mouse over.  There are lots of clock dockletts in the Object Dock Library to download.

I would do it with a Weather Widget too except in Win 7 the Weather Widget doesn't show up in the add a docklett function.  Someone should look at that.

Yeah I know you folks knew this a long time ago, I'm so slow.

Screenshots of your process would be a helpful addition to a new user.

The only scrrenshot that I would have posted would have been the the first screen of Object Dock Plus configuration.  If you look on the bottom left hand side you will see My Docks, click on it and select either 'create new dock' or 'create new tabbed dock'.  From there it's just setting up a dock.  If you have Object Dock you should all ready know how to do that.

Now if you are new to Object Dock keep in mind that only the Plus version allows you to make multiple docks.  A good place to start would be looking at the WC Wiki.  http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/ObjectDock

You can use the OD weather docklet and change the flyout backgrounds to match a WB if the background is included with the blind. Also RedneckDude has a set of backgrounds that have a large variety of styles to choose from. It's a good alternative to a widget for those without DX.

Yup Wizard that's another thing that you can do with Object Dock, and I also do that.

What I was attempting though is to point out is that there is a small bug with Object Dock on Win 7 where it doesn't show that you can add a weather widget to a dock.

weather widget to a dock.

Do you mean weather docklet to the dock? I wasn't aware you could add a widget to the dock. Only docklets.

I do have the option, but the docklet itself doesn't work. I just get the "Feed not available, try again later" message...

Strange, Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit here and no problems, the XP Home 32 bit looses it evertime I reset it.

I must be missing something here.   Are you saying you can't put the regular OD weather docklet on a dock? I have a weather docklet on my OD+ zoomer and can add one in either Config or by rightclicking the dock>Add>New "Weather" Docklet. It works just as it did in Vista 32bit on Windows 7 64 bit for me.

It does seem to get the "Feed not available" more often than Vista did,but closing and reopening OD usually fixes it. I did replace the ocx file once already though. Mirsguy, you may want to try that. Follow the steps in THIS thread.

I have a better way, to see if it's raining or not... call the dog in to see if it's wet.

Guess that makes me more of a redneck than you .... er, most.

I've got a new widget/gadget. Works 100% of the time, no matter where. Works without the Internutz, even!

I had one of those once, but had to get rid of it.... didn't work in fog, so I traded it in for the dog.
