destructive comments
Thursday, November 5, 2009 by Vampothika | Discussion: Community
I would like to post my distaste to recent comments on my master skin Saboteur. Calling my work "not master skin quality" is below the belt. Especially when it is a drive by comment and the skin has not even been downloaded.
I think if you are going to comment on any skin, it should be at least downloaded and tested before inacurate comments and assumptions are made.
I personally believe that if you have nothing constructive to say about a skin, then please say nothing at all.
I spend many weeks and hours on every skin I do. I pour passion, talent, and knowledge into them. They are tested in every possible way that a skin can be tested, and only then is it submitted. The same goes for cursors, icons, and any matching accessory I make.
I can handle criticism, but only if it is constructive, and accurate based on the downloading of the skin itself.

I'm not a classy guy. I speak my mind, just the way I always have.
Oh, that makes it ok then.
It's not there because she forgot to include it. Not because she didn't mean to.

I never understand why people will complain about a master skin not being good enough. If you don't like the skin, then why do you care if it's free or not? Obviously anyone who shells out the cash is happy with the skin, so good for them. If you don't like it, why would you want it even if it's free? Just let it be. I personally don't like it, but who cares? I won't buy it. But I'm not going to bitch about it costing money because honestly I wouldn't be downloading it even if it was free. I think it's obvious that she out alot of work into it, it's fully skinned from what we can see... so what is there that makes it "not good enough" to be a master skin? Just because someone doesn't like it?
I don't like Pepsi. Should I go to my local grocer and demand they stop charging for it because I don't like it? No. I just won't buy it. But others will...

As I said, skin cliques around here are getting old and tired. Constructive and negative comments are one thing, a coordinated attack against one person is another thing. Nobody here has a problem with telling someone how they feel about a skin, it happens every single day.
The problem here is the clique that goes after people they don't like. I know this as fact as I see the PM's sent to people. I don't want to get involved in things like this, but I WILL defend any skinner that is being unfairly treated.
This is the same situation that happened years ago that drove many skinners away. The solution was simple, and it appears it needs to happen again.

Great point! I don't understand why people won't have the common courtesy to give Vampothika some respect. She's one of the most creative skinners I've seen. If you don't like her work, don't buy it and move on. There's no sense in saying things that don't benefit Vampothika as a skinner. This is the wincustomize community.........I think we are supposed to SUPPORT one another.

And what PM's would those be ID. I hope you aren't accusing me of anything here. If you've got proof, show it.
How is telling a skinner that their work is subpar and showing how they are stealing other peoples work an attack? It's ok to show plagarized work publicly and try to sell it but not to criticize it?

This makes me sad.
Constructive criticism is a good thing. But should be done with the goal to assist.
Protecting your and each other's intelectual property rights should be done. But privately.
Supporting skinning and skinners should be somethign we all try to do. Because it helps us all.
I expect better from senior and long-time members of this site.

And that is a winning statement right there, even though it is directed at me. I too expect better from senior and long-time members.

"Stealing" would actually involve distributing the work, which hasn't happened. We are talking about an error in a description here.

You don't type out whole sentences in error. She did distribute the work to LGSpence via email when he asked where it was.

As a mod I sometimes am asked to check out master skins. So I can comment on those I see from trying them. I don't comment on the master skins I don't try or from the screen shot. That would be stupid. How can I say something about something I haven't tried. So if you people haven't tried it, how can one comment on it and be truthful about it? You can't. So why would one do it. To sound big? Be destructive? Run someone down in the eyes of the people? Or all the above? Oh well.....

Right. Oh, It fits me alright in this instance, I'll make no excuse for it. It's time someone said something about this kind of crap though.

it is easy to call some one a fool for saying something that others dont like, every one is entitled to there opinon i feel you may have taken it the wrong way, for lightstar saying nasty comments is silly he is a master him self so i dont no why it has not been used in a constructive way. but you still said you dont like pepsi which is your right ![]()
Reply #37 Thursday, November 5, 2009 11:59 AM
WOM wonders when Lightstar was promoted to Master, thought he was a Journeyman. Hum. Like I said, comment on a skin if you've tried it. If not, don't.

I made an obsevation after only being here about a year, maybe two, and being that I'm coming up on the five year mark, things have not changed much at all. The observation, for an online community things are pretty much like real life here,
Think about it.

Well, it ain't flippin jealousy ID. Not on this skin, not on any of her skins. It's ok for people to comment about how excellent and creative a skin is, but if someone puts in a true opinion about how they don't feel it's master quality, it's automatically bad and destructive and blah, blah fucking blah.
I'm sick of the mod/admin cliques on here myself.
