Friday, September 11, 2009 by DarkIntuition | Discussion: SkinStudio Help

Hi, Im somewhat new to editing skins, but i bought one that i love, but it seems to have 2 majorly annoying flaw i want gone but dont know how to get rid of. so if anyone has any ideas of how to get rid of them that be much appreciated.

Problem #1: Renaming a Folder: when ever i try to rename a folder then move the cursor left or right by pressing left or right keys the text becomes overlayed by the selected icon highlight color. ???? any ideas ??

Problem #2: Scribbles in the Shortcut Menus: Apps and Windows: My second problem is most annoying, randomly these scribbles appear in the shortcut menus in windows, and now basic app menu's. As in the example pic that is iTunes 9 and oddly there pink. in windows menus there black. dont know whys there a color different but i do know i wnat an answer to this hopefully.

It might not be a problem with the skin, but a problem with your computer, or with your version of Windowblinds.  I have not seen anyone post these sorts of issues regarding this skin in the past.  I use the skin myself, and have never had any problems with it.

Please post your system information from Windowblinds, so that someone can help you with your problem.

you're getting those scibbles in itunes, aren't you? i get them, too. they're not always there for me but they're annoying when they do appear. i'm guessing it's because the interface of itunes is hard-coded and can't be changed by wb. add itunes to the 'do not skin' list in wb and you'll be fine.

oops! i guess i should've read your entire post. it seems you're getting scribbles in other apps besides itunes. (there's a glenn beck joke there but i'm going to be good and not tell it) anyway, i can't help you with the scribbles in other apps. sorry. i don't get them anywhere other than itunes.

Scribbles I get often in some skins (no pattern to those that do it - probably may even be random) in Win dropdowns too, saves me running Broken Aero though. Re-applying the skin often corrects it.

The rename is annoying as hard to see the text to change, some I can workaround by right arrow to the end of the old name and then use backspace as this text is often more visually legible but with some even this is coloured injudiciously. I can't help thinking again since it is sporadic that it is not the fault of the skinner.

The cure for the scribbles is to reapply the skin (meaning apply the skin twice). Not The skins fault, seems to be a quirk with Windowblinds. The first thing you mention is sort of a momentary discomfort. I'm sure there is a way to fiv that...just don't know what it is.

The rename issue happens with all WB skins in Vista.. If you mouseover the folder the text should reveal itself. Always check more than one skin before blaming a particular issue on a particular skin.

Second issue happens on some apps in lots of skins, I don't know why. A second apply will sometimes help.

Lastly, try to refrain from using a rude tone and CAPS when posting for help.
