Ideas for a Community Theme Project - Holiday Edition
Thursday, September 10, 2009 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I have been wanting to help organize a new community theme project for quite a while. With the holidays rapidly approaching, and the fact that Christmas is one of the most popular skinning holidays, I would like to propose a community project around that.
What do you say?
My idea, subject to further input from the community.
Christmas/Winter Holiday Theme Pack
This would include at the minimum:
- WindowBlinds theme
- DesktopX Theme
- DesktopX Gadgets
- CursorFX theme
- Dreams
- RightClick Skins
- Icons (IP or just some dock icons)
- Wallpapers
At the end this would all be wrapped up in a Theme Manager suite.
My thought is a minimal-type theme that will appeal to a broad range of people, yet have a big influence of holiday colors or design.
What we need?
I need a Project Manager who will help coordinate skinners and their activities.
We also need ideas for a unique name plus design ideas.
September 28th Update:
Here is the current list of people who have signed up to participate. Aside from the WindowBlinds theme as we want to keep it consistent, several people can create themes of the same type as long as they stay within the theme.
Current skinners list:
WindowBlinds – Xiandi (Completed)
DX Theme – Redneckdude
DX Gadgets – Redneckdude, Island Dog
Dreams – CarGuy1
Theme Manager Suite – Philly0381
ObjectDock – MIrsguy
RightClick – Mirsguy, bk13GarbageMan
Wallpaper – DEVJIT, skyzyk
Sysmetrix – Fuzzy Logic
Vista Logons - skyzyk
Screensavers – Jimbo9294
CursorFX – ChaosMoth
If I missed anybody, or if anything needs to be updated just let me know.

I need a "please wait" animation or image or something....any suggestions? I have to do animations the hard way (frame by frame in photoshop) so keep it fairly simple.....or volunteer to make it for me. ![]()

lookin really nice... a spinning snowflake would be easy.. could even do quite a detailed one.. rather simply if it just spun...
or a few blinking xmas lights on a string fading off on either end would look lovely.. and easy to do..
if all else fails... how about a nice Christmas sausage ! ![]()

Ringing bells would be nice, but probably not easy. ![]()

Suggestion for "please wait" animation: a simple 'please wait' text made of gold and silver (just like the skin) with a little sparkles animation here and there ![]()

perhaps a gold and silver Christmas tree like the snowflake..a few sparkles........with presents appearing around the bottom...would be a pretty simple animation I would think....just an idea...
I like the spinning snowflake one too....so many things you could do...I'm sure you'll come up with a lovely one xiandi.... ![]()

Vista is done.
I'm going to make the XP substyle in the next couple days....almost everything for XP is in there already, but I need to make a substyle and put in a new start panel, then it's on to the 7 substyle. It wont be too much longer now, then I can send it to everyone to test and pick apart.
I will need the emails of the team members to send the blind.... PM me your emails please. ![]()

For the few who care, I'm almost done with the Vista version of Hanukkah/Solstice/multicultural December holiday windowblind. I know Island Dog didn't include me in the group, but I'm doing this for the community for the December holiday for the "forgotten"...those who don't celebrate Christmas, but work your shift so you can be at home with your family. I would have volunteered right away, if the original post would have been more clear that it was the "winter holidays" not just Christmas.
Anyway, this is what I have so far:

Not really...it's distorted because I have my 1024 x 768 monitor plugged into my laptop which has a different resolution. It looks rather funky, but it gives me more real estate on which to do my paying job, on this cheap-@ss monitor until such time as I can convince myself I deserve a better one and can come up with the cash to buy one. (If I wasn't keeping these other people under my roof, I'd just go out and get a nice widescreen, but nobody else in this house seems to be able to find work right now).

Its not really the res sweetie, its the 15 icons in the progs menu.. wouldnt be any smaller on any size res. U just happen to prefer a lot more icons is all
