Why does Fences REQUIRE Internet Explorer 7 be installed?

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 by RSX S SJ | Discussion: Fences

I tried to update Fences today after getting the notification that version 0.96 expired on Aug 31.

After downloading version 0.99, the installer stops and says that Internet Explorer 7 MUST be installed.  WHY does Fences require Internet Explorer 7?

The major issue I have is that one of the computers I use this on is a work PC, and we cannot install Internet Explorer 7.

I love fences and would be really disappointed if I could not continue using it.

Any ideas?

James

The stand-alone installer leverages Impulse to manage Stardock applications (installs, updates, archiving) and it uses the IE7 engine.

What browser *are* you using?

The PC has Internet Explorer 6 installed.

I am using Maxthon 2.5.6 for everyday use.

Other than Fences, I have no other Stardock software installed, and due to the restrictions, doubt I ever will.  Although I see the advantage of changing to Impulse to handle updates with multiple products installed, I would much prefer a stand alone installer.

In my case, where I am only trying to use Fences, Impulse requiring IE7 is only stopping me from using a great piece of software.

It is all about choices, and yes Fences is a very nice program.

I always thought the Maxthon used the IE engine, am I wrong about that?

IE6 has more security holes than a piece of swiss cheese.Even if it isn't used it is still a major security risk. Perhaps your place of work should reevaluate it's decision to keep IE6 installed. They will be far better protected with IE7.

Maxthon requires IE6 but recommends IE7

I agree with you whole heartedly.  Unfortunately, I don't make those decisions which is why I'm stuck with IE6 installed.
