DeskScapes 3 Beta 1 Bug reports

Thursday, August 20, 2009 by ZubaZ | Discussion: DeskScapes

A DeskScapes beta has been released.  This build has a new user interface, effects that can be applied to dreams, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  Sadly, the effects are Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.

Double-clicking a dream no longer loads a dream.  You will need to use the "Apply changes" button.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

You may want to ensure you have the latest DirectX9 runtimes (even on Win7) by installing the following : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

There is an issue on some machines with some dreams where the UI may crash out when it builds the dream list.  There will be an update on Friday morning to resolve this.

Double clicking will be back, thumbnails in explorer probably not. The 256x256 graphic is still used in the new UI.
OK thanks Neil, it's is a good trade-off for the new preview facility - which is an excellent piece of work to render out the preview at the speed it does.

Things are working fine with Windows 7 RTM now that I have beta 1 installed.  I'm glad that DeskScapes will work on Windows 7.

My apologies for not appearing sooner, since my wife passed away, I've been away from the scene and lost sight of the latest version of Deskscapes.

Dream Manager relies on the same process that explorer uses when you double click a dream.  Until that is working, Dream Manger won't work.  Once that is working again (or deskscapes gives me an alternative), I can start the process of making it compatible. Until then, It'll have to wait.

Cheers!

Man, MasterBaron, I am so sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do for you? Anything? Man, my prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear that Baron. As for manager as the beta only just came out its not something  you need to be worrying about at this time. My thoughts are with you as I know how a loss like yours can be.

Bug detected on XP SP3:

When rebooting PC, the Dream which was launched is freezing (mean no more effects, just like a simple wallpaper). In same time any window which is opened can't be closed (well it can, but the window is still displaying on screen ...).

The way to fix things is to disable the Dream via DesKScapes and last wallpaper is launched correctly and everything's goes back correctly

I am unclear on what you mean?

Do you mean that happens briefly during shutdown, or the pc gets stuck, or it is like that after a reboot?

I cleared out all traces of Deskscapes and reinstalled. Stars stopped crashing and now works, but Desktop Collage still acts up on on the preview.

I have a DreamMaker Start Menu shortcut but the .exe is missing.
Missing .dream file association. (Double clicking on .dream in windows explorer does not know what program to use)
Occasional problems with fences after applying scenes.
Occasional Explorer crashes when disabling deskscapes.
Once, Scrolling to the right, scrollbar didn't go all the way right before stoping.  Resizing fixed it, haven't had the problem since.  I was able to have the same problem by resizing the window to its minimum width, this was not the case the first time.

Looking good, Thanks!

I bought Deskscape in March, haven't got it working till now.

I get the same errors with 2.9 Beta as with 2.5. When I load up a dream, the background changes to black and the explorer crashes after a few seconds. (Explorer.exe caused a problem... )

The previews work for all dreams I have except the Box Sample (only the background)

I have an AMD X2 6000+ @ 2x3,0GHz, Asus GTX280 OC (--> uses an additional Asus driver to support Asus tools; doesn't seem to cause the problem, because dreams don't work without this driver, too)

Im running Win XP SP3 and hope that I can use this program in the next time

greetings

Edit: After i try to load a dream and the desktop crashed, i get the popup message "Deskscapes does not appear to have been installed correctly. Would you like Deskcape to try to fix this now?", when I try to restore my old background. I can then decide which user account the program shall use and after that get the message "You must relog or reboot your PC before you can use Deskscapes"

I cannot find this beta in the My Software tab, eventhough I have ticked "Show Pre-release versions" in the settings of Impulse. Running Windows 7 RC 32-bit.

Try resetting your Impulse data.  Orb in the upper left, preferences, Reset data.

If you go to the "My Software" tab and click on deskscape over on the right side what version does it list? Version 3 shows as beta 2.90
