Endeavor WIP
My First Windowblind
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 by RedneckDude | Discussion: Sneak Previews
Well, guys, be easy on me, this is my first one. Here is what I have so far. It is based on a wall I made a while back. Gonna be a plain, simple and useable skin for my first. Please zoom. ![]()

good luck on yer first WB...watch that banding on the grey in the start menu...you might change the sizing method or add noise to the image or pull the gradient off pure vertical or add a gradient layer that interupts the banding. ![]()
Unless of course thats just banding from overly compressing the screeny...then...nevermind. ![]()

I see it, but I have to look close. I will try to get it fixed, thanx!

If you apply the gradient to the image itself rather than adding it through layerstyle it seems to be smoother in my experience.

true...but any vertical or horizontal gradient will band if stretched ![]()

The placement of the start menu looks much better! ![]()

Looking good and of to a great start!
One (ok maybe 2 or 3 small things
) small thing i noticed, match the gradient on the border/outline of the startmenu to that of your taskbar & window frames to get that connected uniform look, also maybe give the corner the same radius as the taskbar or window frames
(is the outline 3px on startmenu and 2px on taskbar? maybe my eyes decieve me)... I hate giving critique on these things i never know if im overstepping.
A tip i want to share and that makes things easier in future endeavours, if you didnt do it already that is
, designing the overall look at a early stage create the startmenu, taskbar and windowframes on the same canvas that way you get a better feeling of it and consistency. And save the colors and styles in the palette(!).

Yeah, that's huge! Saves a lot of trouble and color-hunting.

I checked this out earlier. You got a way with images RnD. Your DX skins rock big time so why should a WB be any different. Besides and here I quote ......
Rock on Dude!
