Hi Craig, there is two things you can try, what I would do is uninstall your drivers using Windows 7 manager . Just type that in your search bar and you can get it for free. It does a good job of uninstalling. If you have tried installing your drivers from your Nvidia card from your desktop, try booting into safe mode and installing it from there. If this doesnt work you can uniinstall those drivers and install the ones from Microsoft Version 1.1 cause Iam also running a Nvidia 9500 GT and I dont have this problem. Best of luck....

The wallpapers are supposed to fade in and out when you change them.  On my rig it's pretty fast . . . I wonder if it's SUPER SLOW for you?

Thanks Butch, I'll look into that but I have a squeeky clean system, wouldprefer not to junk it up with beta software. It is a good lead though.

It takes few days to fade out after changing wallpapers so that would be super duper slow.

I guess it's the video drivers.

Sounds like ur monitor may be going bad, does the same on mne on XP and Vista.. have to constantly change wallpapers, at night i change it to a black screen. 3rd LCD ive had that did this.

What monitors you guys using?

I did a thread about this awhile ago (can't find it now) when I noticed what looked like burn in on my LCD screens.  I got real concerned as I us my LCD TV as a secondary monitor. 

When I searched the web I found that unlike the old CRT burn in that what I was seeing on the LCD was not permanent.  In non-technical language the pixels were 'remembering' what was on the screen.  Going back to running a screen saver helps (one of the basic ones that has mostly a blank screen will an object moving around) and shuting off the monitor when you are away or in sleep mode.

There well may be other things that are involved and other things you can do.  When I searched the web I found some things for different monitors that you could do.  If my I remember correctly there is some programs that you download the essentially run test patterens of colors that get the pixels to 'forget' what they 'remembered', if that makes any sense.

Excellent monitor, no vertical gradiesnt like I saw on almost every other LCD i looked at... been perfect for about 12 mo then started leaving imprints from wallpapers, windows left in same place for too long.

 Philly all of those suggestions in the link are basically useless to me as I am on my PC every waking hour, I end up just changing walls every 15 mins.

Thing is for almost a year.... didnt do it.. I guess LCD being so cheaply built start going bad sooner than later.

Driver version and Refresh Rate? (what card to you have John?)

did it with 3 seperate vid cards including on board intel chipset , an ATI and a Nvidia.

Christ. Do you have this on set to "Turn off Display" in Power Options?

I at times forget that most of you folks are using your computers to make a living and would be using them much more then folks like me.  I wonder what is the normal life of an LCD screen in hours or how ever they test them?

No i dont, all power saving is off, all screensavers off, Everything set to always on.

I literally am always at the PC so it wouldnt turn off anyway unless I went to bed and even then I leave my screen on so I can turn my PC alarm clock off in the morning without turning my monitor on, so my monitor literall never gets turned off, short of restarting and power outages.

So, im bacically at about 18 months non stop on this monitor.

You sleep...extend the same courtesy to the Monitor. Shutting it off, counting to 10 will have the same effect. "Ghosts" will be gone.

well... problem is.. soon as its been on a few mins... same thing. So shutting it off only helps.. for me.. while it's off and a for a few mins after its been back on.

It needs more time (sounds like heat). Try the Power off option while you sleep (set it for 20 minutes). It's an LCD, so it will fire up as soon as you touch the mouse or keyboard for your "alarm clock" (or anything else). I think you'll find the problem goes away. 

well, one small problem with that too, if I turn it off for any length of time  and back on , the screen starts acting dodgy, have to keep turning it on and off to get it to come on corrrectly.

  A tchnician buddy of mine who works on monitors said it sounded like the power inverter, not related to the screen burn.

When I replace it, If i ever can, Ill try using power savings.

I have a hp f1903 that has basically been on for 2 years straight less reboots and the occsional short rest.

My 2nd monitor does not have this issue. NEC1735

Go figure, it is happening on my $500 monitor that is 2 years old but not my $200 monitor that is just a litle older.

When the Mrs goes to sleep tonight I'm taking back what is mine.

Tomorrow I'll be packing. eh, it's a battlle worth fighting.

I think a lot of people presumed that since there's no cathode spitting electrons at a screen there's no issue with leaving a LCD on.....unlike the old CRTs.

As yrag said, though.....if you are asleep give your monitor the same courtesy/break.

Switch it to 'blank' in 'screensavers' ....it doesn't HAVE to be turned off.  My machine is on 24/7 ....but the screen will always blank after 10 minutes of inactivity.

If you need a light to see your alarm clock/whatever.....buy a torch.....
