Forum Update - April 2, 2009
Minor update, but important
Thursday, April 2, 2009 by GunslingerBara | Discussion: Forum Issues
The forums have been updated again today with a minor change. If a user edits his/her post, there will now be a "View Edits" button. Clicking this button will show a history of that reply/post, along with highlights (red = removed text, green = added text).
If you do not see the button or clicking the button does nothing, please do a "hard refresh" by holding Ctrl and pressing F5. This will clear your cache and force a download of the new image and javascript file.
Hopefully this will reduce the amount of griefers who go back and edit all of their posts.

Yeah, but that's only because he never posts without a dictionary beside the keyboard. And that's why he types at a whopping 2 WPM.

At that same post though is a forced background color. I edited my Reply #14 in this thread to have text color as well as background color changes, so you don't need to visit that gc2 thread.
I really don't know what to tell you though...and it would have to be some sort of formatting that we cannot already do. Perhaps too much of an issue to deal with a minority that posts in colors.
~sighs~ Damned typos. When do you think Firefox's spellcheck will work in posts again?

ZubaZ is going to end up spending more time editing than posting!

I think I just heard Zubaz lobby for the spell check. ![]()
Oh yeah, I haven't gotten this in yet. Good job Bara!
*edit, Bara beat me to it in the following reply before I could get this edit up*
GOT IT! Perhaps forcing the post to the colors that are default for the forum JUST inside that edit box. That way you could still do the red/green. That doesn't screw with the original post does it?

Quoting GunslingerBara, reply 18Hmm... I'll have to figure out how to handle that... maybe give it a background instead of just changing the text color.

Actually, I decided I'll just get rid of all formatting from the edits, so it's just plain text. I'll add the smileys, links, and quote formatting, but that's about it. That should resolve the problem and make edits easier to manage and read.
By the way, if you guys notice any of the forums with color/image issues related to this, please be sure to let me know! I know some of the forums have darker backgrounds and icons, so I used a different icon and style for those.

This is a much needed improvement to the forums. It may even promote thinking before hitting the "Post Reply" button.(But I wouldn't be willing to bet any money on that happening)![]()

A perfectly cromulent idea. Well done, good sirs.

That reminds me of the intro to Hot Shots 2, which had text being typed on screen and went something like this:
plot to assassss...
(backspace)
assis...
(backspace)
plot to kill a guy.

Do have an issue with posts that I know have been modified. These are forums that have mods on them so they are constantlyl being updated. I cant get in them.
I open the forum, see the initial few words, start to scroll down and then get and error message.
Have tried CTRL + F5

Oi Snark...you had TOO much fun with that.
Why do I foresee someone typing out a post, 1 symbol at a time and editing it...or even creating a pattern to scroll down through?
~rubs temples~
Perhaps this wasn't a good idea afterall lol.

So long chaotic conversations, my brain & its fuzzzzyyyy puzzzzzling mindset of late thanks you (without typos! To lower the amount of data this site has to keep track of, and to NOT see a viewedits button underneath this post, etc)

Biggest connection I see is most of the forums that are failing to load is that they are usually ones that have a lot of editing done to them. Also there is a long load time incurred (usually 3 to 10 sec).

It's going to be awesome just to see everyone's typos. Cook. What typos?
Zu doesn't know the meaning of the word 'typos', or the meaning of the word 'meaning'.
