IMPULSE Downloadspeed much too SLOW!
Takes HOURS! 0,2% in 5 Minutes....
Monday, March 30, 2009 by Revanito | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Hi there!
Even if i have a real fast Internet-Connection (don`t know the description in english, but in germany we call it a 16.000er) IMPULSE is much, much too slow.
After clicking (for example) update Windowblinds i got 0,2% after 5 Minutes!!!!To be exact: Now... after 10 Minutes... i got 0,5% downloaded!
Can anybody guess what that can be?
I checked my Firewall; IMPULSE is free to go! NOTHING in my machine stops IMPULSE!
I am disappointed....

Quick thought off the top of my head - If you're running an anti-spyware program, try disabling/unloading it before you open up Impulse.

We've been having a lot of reports recently from users of Avira security software experiencing extremely slow downloads. A recent update to their web shield apparently is causing the problem. Disabling this portion of the security suite brings downloads back to normal rates.

Also you can download pingplotter trial and ping the stardock server's... i have found that there are often problems with the backbones in germany loads of packetloss.... If that is the case try another dns to route you another way if possible. ![]()

By the way:This Lines are written out of UBUNTU. My first (and last) Try. Might be an alternative for some people... but: NO!
I will boot back now into the Gates-Machine.

Thanks!!! This fixed my download speeds. I'm using Avira AntiVir 9.

This is still a problem several months later, any word on whether there's anything we can do with respect to Antivir or Impulse that doesn't involve turning off the Antivir webguard completely? It's a pain when I start a new update or download and forget to turn it off only to come back a few hours later with 1% downloaded.

The fix would logically have to come from the AVIRA side as it is their program blocking Impulse.

Just a suggestion here. With so many very capable free anti-virus programs out there, wouldn't it just be simpler to switch from Avira to something else? The conflict today may be with Impulse, but who's to say what the next one will be with.
I don't want to start a "this is better than that" thread, but I'm using Avast and it has been trouble free.

I agree with Lantec cause:
I DISabled the AVIRA-Webguard... and Impulse`s Speed was fast as hell!
So... if anybody has the same Problem and AVIRA as Antivirprogram... the Webguard is the little Devil!!!
Stop (temporarily) it... and you`ll see that Impulse has a good Speed.

I own the paid professional version of Avira so while I will consider switching that won't be for another year or so until the subscription has run out
I agree that the fix should be done on Avira's side but I suppose what I'm after is for Stardock to contact them about the problem rather than just relying on the feedback of a single user.

I don't use Avira, but you should have the ability to set an exception for Impulse.
Reply #17 Wednesday, September 9, 2009 5:57 PM
I believe previous users reported that the exception did not help. Typically the web guard or Avira as a whole needs to be temporarily disabled.

Its true what Gargabee aid:
DISable the Avira-Webguard temporarily... and you`re fine.
Thats no big Deal, and Impulse will speed up VERY fast.

As Shirley said, disable Avira Antivir WebGuard while you are downloading from Impulse.
Worked out for me too ![]()

Hallo,
Also nicht Aufgeben

Hi,
i dont think it is an Impulse problem, because me 16.000 line is used in full, normally. But since last Thursday i got problems connecting with USA. This happens with Steam, Impulse and any other app. I heard it might be weather related.
