You flatter me Doc. I don't have fences installed so I may not be much help. If you archived Fences in Impulse, did you try to restore from that?
Is the latest update a beta? If so,you can go back to a release version by setting Impulse to not show pre-release versions(preferences, blue orb,top left)Then, uninstall fences, reboot, then reinstall. You may lose your configuration, but you'll have a working version. You may also prefer to wait until a Fences user responds to this thread or try getting ahold of someone in IRC.
Sorry I can't be much more help than this.Good Luck.

Frist question I would ask is other than the update to Fences, what else changed?
I'm running Fencss on an XP Home 32 bit SP3 system with no problems. I usually also have ObjectDock Pluse and DX Themes and or Widgets running.
You should be able to see Fences under the My Desktop Tab in Impulse. I would uninstall (using Impulse), run a clean up program like CCleaner, reboot and reinstall through Impulse. It's possitle that the update didn't download correctly.
Post back if that helps.

I have Windows Vista Premium 32 bit. v.096.1646 beta. I do not have beta checked and i dont know if fences is a beta program. I use just a plain black desktop.

ccleaner did not find anything. installed version on impulse shows 096.042 the program itself shows v.096.1646 beta. labels dont work, scroll bars dont work, outlines dont work

Maybe the Beta is the problem? Try what Wizard1956 suggested in #2.

This doesn't happen with XP but some times a AV or security programs interferes with downloads on Vista, try reinstalling with you AV and security programs turned off. You can turn them back on after downloading.

Well then I'd suggest pm'ing Lantec (Mod) and see what he says...include the url of this thread so he can get an idea of what was going on.

This same thing happens to me. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling as well. No go so far.

I can't even get a fence to appear. Just downloaded the program and I am unable to create a fence.

Several things to check:
1. antiviral/firewall software turned off during download...some can interfere.
2. Did the program install? Do you have "Administrator" status?
3. 32/64 bit system?
4. nVidia...turn off "nview"
Post some system info...so we have something to work with.

Hi guys...
Try changing to using a wallpaper instead of a solid-color for your background... see if that helps your situation. Some changes were made in this version revolving around that.
Thanks

Sorry, I really should know better - it was late.
1) No anti-virus / firewall software enabled
2) The program installed, and is indeed running. If I hover over the fence areas, I can move them, resize them, add them, add TO them, etc. I just can't SEE their frame / 'window' / region (whatever you want to call it), regardless of transparency settings or color settings.
3) 32-bit system.
4) It's not on. I only turn that on on machines with multiple displays, and this one doesn't have it.
5) It was working great until I updated. My son has been bugging me to install it on his machine because he likes how I set up my desktop. I literally changed nothing else - nothing else has been installed or uninstalled (I promise - I'm a dev, so I know how frustrating it is when a customer says that but really did change something). When I was prompted to reboot, I didn't do it immediately. I did not shut down in a normal manner (power outage), and when I restarted, my fences were invisible (they're there, I just can't see them). I un-installed, rebooted, re-installed. My fences were still invisible. I can move them around (and I see their entire contents move with them). I've tried changing all my settings and then changing them back, thinking maybe an enum / some other data variable setting got messed up and I just needed to trigger an update to that setting. Nope.

Yup! That was it! I changed from a solid color background, and that fixed it.
(But, but, but... I LIKE my solid black background. )

open paint, fill with black, save, use as background wallpaper.

Can you make or find a wallpaper that is almost totally black? That may work, just a thought.
[Edit] RickJP beat me to it.

Could you tell us more about your system...OS, Fences version, if you're using Active Desktop or Deskscapes? If I or anyone else can't help, try Philly by pm...but he's around, I hope. Wizard 1956 is also pretty helpful, and they both know more than me.
