A couple of questions for skinners
Sunday, March 8, 2009 by Philly0381 | Discussion: OS Customization
Some of you may have noticed that I taken to turning Dekstop Themes into Theme Manager Suites. I have been having a great time doing this as there are some very outstanding Themes in the WC Gallery Libraries that for some reason have never been pulled together for a Suite.
My first question centers around the additonal skins that are made for the Desktop Themes. As you can imagine I view a lot of Themes and was wondering why some great WindowBlinds Skins never have the additonal skins made for them to fillout the Theme. Is this purely by desire of the original skinner not giving permission or choice of the other skinners not asking for permission?
The second question is about updating of the Theme to current WB and OS versions. Do you as a skinner consider that or would you rather just move on creating new skins for the current versions of the software and OS?
By the way, I think making Theme Manager Suites is a great way of showing to the new community members just what is available, theme wise, to customize thier desktops with. It also keeps me busy and productive as a member of the community. ![]()

I like the program that Deviant Art just started. They started a program whereby artists can sign up to have their work be opened up to other skinners for additional skins/accessories as long as credit is given to the original artist -- sort of a blanket permission statement, so when the muse hits an artist, they don't have to put their project on hold, searching down an artist and getting permission.
To that end, I want to state that anybody here has my permission to use my work to base their project off of as long as they give credit to me. I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon, though, since you said "there are some very outstanding Themes in the WC Gallery" and none of mine are outstanding....yet.

I've volunteered a few times to create dreams for a some skins and suites and so far have always been welcomed to join in.
Have you included a dream catagory in your "Desktop Themes", Philly?

I still try to update my old skins....slowly but surely
as for extra stuff, i make most of my own, but i will give out permission after I have checked what was made and think its to a standard that i would accept. ![]()

Althought Theme Manager does not show Dreams as a skin selection for it's Suites option, if a Dream or any other skin is available for a Theme I will always include it in the description with a link. ![]()

I would love it if people asked to to matching skins for my themes. I find it hard to ask "does someone want to do some matching skins for (skinname)?"
I'm sure many don't ask for permission for fear of a rejection.
Let it be known here and now. I'm always open for artists to make complimentery skins to match my themes.....just ask!

I would say it's a little of both, Philly. I, for example, only do DX themes and widgets for WBs that I like, unless it is requested of me. There are a few skins by Stardock Design that I would love to do, but they never respond to my requests. So I just quit asking. A big NO is better than no response at all, which is what I get from Stardock Design.
Most skinners will grant permission if you do good work, and someone else hasn't beat you to it...lol. I have blanket permission from a few skinners here. Good guys to work with. I see that as my work has improved, I get more yesses(?).
