Submissions not making it....
Sunday, March 1, 2009 by OFFICA WoD | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Hi guys,
i was wondering if its possible to have a feedback reply to 'skins - walls - icons' ect that dont make submission.
Its frustrating when you spent hours doing work, only to find it doesnt make the gallery's 5 day "wait and see" period.
so, i would love to see an email containing "your work didnt make the cut because of................." then we can change to suit.
I think this would be of great benefit for the unlucky ones.
Cheers

it might not be a good recomendation but, try to see others work, see what they have done and maybe you can get a clue of it:
Ex.:
Walls: try to make a real unique(funtional and clean or "easy to use") wall with at least two different sizes.., JPG must make the trick
Icons: at least 50...something...., i mean, try to cover the essencial icons and dont forget the resolution (pixels)
Logons: it's much alike the walls...,
etc....

Every time an item get rejected, an email *is* sent, with reason(s) for the rejection, to the mail address registered with the user.
If you for some reason haven't recieved any, please check your "junk mail". Mails from Wincustomize might be detected as "spam".

We do send off a rejection letter with every rejection, tho I wonder if there's somthing wrong with the mailing system.
If I mod a skin and find issue I look no further, in to the skin, so after fixing the one issue, there may be others I have yet to discover.
Especially if its a functionality issue, If the skin wont load how can one tell if there are other issues til it's fixed?

This is a pretty 'sensative' issue...loaded with emotion, that of the creator of the art. There are 'technical' reasons, as have been related to above, and 'artistic' ones, which are a real land mine.
Might I say just one thing...correct all the possible technical reasons you can, especially the junk mail one cited above. As for the artistic ones, you have to please yourself first and foremost. Be honest and 'Vulcan' about comparing yours to those accepted.
Finally, ask yourself whether you're submitting in order to be 'published' or whether you're submitting something you believe is art...your true art. If it's more the former and less the latter, then deal with that issue....also, you can always submit at other sites and see what their moderation and viewer comment say about it.

It would help if you posted the name of the upload and what Gallery section it was in.

I have received emails for all of the pitifully few this I've done.

As everyone else has mentioned, you should receive an e-mail if something is "wrong" with the skin such as a small preview, corrupt upload, etc. I don't see any rejection e-mail sent to you recently.
However, if something is sent to your personal page there is no separate e-mail as there is technically nothing "wrong" with it, but it just didn't make moderation.
The new WinCustomize will have some type of notification about personal page notifications, but that's about all I can say about that right now.
If a skin was sent to your PP, and you want to know why, please feel free to contact any of the mods. We will be glad to give tips and suggestions to better get through moderation.

Fair enough HG
Tailsgirl must learn to not take rejection personally lol

Definitely.
I know of no-one on this site, from Admin/Moderator/Master/Journeyman/etc who has not at some time had something rejected or at least questioned.
No-one is treated differently....

Thx for the replies.....
i belive there were 3 wallpapers called
Jeans
Subzero
Musicalpeople
They were all 1920x1200 preview, and only 1 size in zip folder 1920x1200
I dont mind that they may not be good enough, just a heads up kinda thing
Cheers again

No-one is treated differently
Could definitely be debated

Could definitely be debated
OK....then "everyone who fails to abide by the conditions of submission is treated the same".
Does that sound better?.....

DaveBax, I believe that Jafo meant that all are treated fairly. Different artists have different ranks, and after Journeyman (maybe Master apprentice) the works are accepted w/o moderation as those ranked that way are conversant enough with the rules and criteria and consistently are compliant with them
That's smart and fair...also reasonable.

I once asked this, but you 'sometimes 'do' get a reason, eventually, it's just that when you correct the reason it was rejected in the first place, if you're even given one, it's a different reason again.
