Z-Order Issue

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by JukEboXAuDiO | Discussion: DesktopX

Ok so I have 3 objects on my widget. My top widget is a circle. When I apply changes to it, it is placed behind the other 2 objects. it is not a child and neither are any of hte objects. If I change the Z-Order to the top of the widget it still goes behind the other objects on apply. What should I do? Thanks.

Make Z-order of all objects 'desktop' or 'normal'

Right Click>Properties>Relation>Z-order.

Then right click on object to move up or down its Z-order.

If the object hides the other, You can also change z-order in Object Navigator (List Objects}.

Ok i have done that. All objects are set to desktop level. I clicked on the circle and brought to top. When I export the widget to Sidebar Gadget and load it in Sidebar the circle is below all the other objects until I click on it. IDeas?

Try once  again..

It should do. Try configuring its z-order using Object Navigator.

Right Click on Desktopx Icon in systray. Click on List Objects. Object Navigator will open.

Bring your circle's z-order to top and export all objects using object navigator itself.

Note: The object you configure last will automatically come to top. So after you adjusted all z-orders, you should export them using object navigator. Right click on any select all and export.

BTW, what are you trying to make. You might like to group them or assign a parent child relation if they are to go together.

Nope that didn't work either. The other 2 boxes are in a group together and that group seems to be taking Z-Order above the cricle. the circle is not in the group. I tryed what you said about Z-Order but didn't make a differnece.

It shows fine when I am building it in DesktopX but the problem is when I export it and open it in sidebar the circle shows up behind the other objects. I don't know what else to do.

1.You can try to make all three in groups if they will go together.

Like if objects 3,2,1 are to be from bottom to top... then set 3 as 2's parent and 2 as 1's parent.

Or

2. Set the Circle's Z-order as 'Normal'. It should be then on top of every desktop level objects.

Sorry dear I have no idea of exporting a sidebar gadget but It works for me in general.

I have tried just about everything. Set it to Always on top, set Z-Order to the top. I don't know what else to do. I just need the circle above the rectangles when converted to Sidebar gadget. Can anyone help me?

Make a MASTER object out of something that can then be set to a transparancy = 0 so it doesnt show up.

Then make ALL the other objects CHILD objects of this master, then what your trying to do will work, or should.

Its something i have made a habit of doing, making this "master" object thats just a big box, thats the size that fits all of the child objects, then keep all the scripts in this as well, so that makes it easier to make updates, etc.  Just my .02
