DesktopX Sidebar apps fail on Vista 64

Error that DesktopX is not installed.

Monday, February 23, 2009 by Hawkeye666 | Discussion: DesktopX

I've tried several Vista Sidebar apps that were built from DesktopX and all of them error saying that DesktopX is not installed, or installed correctly. I have a feeling there is an issue with them looking for DLLs in Program Fiesl, etc. instead of Program Files (x86).

So two questions:

1.  Is that the case?

B.  What files need to be copied manually into what other folder for it to wark? (Assuming there is this work around).

TIA

I'm not sure copying files will be enough to make it work correctly, but simply running the sidebar in x86 mode will work around the problem.

There is an explanation on how to do that here.

Can you post a link to one that failed for you?

I'm running Vista 64 and the Underground gadget is working fine.  Wasn't that made with DX?

This one fails for me. And that one too

Oh, and the link to install the Framework (shown when the gadget cannot be loaded) is broken, looping endlessly.

BTW, if by the Underground gadget, you mean this gadget, it's not a DX-based one.

Thanks for the link and idea. So far I have not used the gadget, preferring to keep 64-bit sidebar. But I may try it to see how much success I get.

Thanks again...
