Need help with changing dock icons

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Docks

I have ObjectDock Plus and need some help, pointers and or guidance on changing the Icons on the Zoomer Dock.

Lets start off with what I do know.  I can right click on the icon and select Dock Entry Properties.  This opens up a window where I can select to change the image which will then take me to another window that I can either select from dock icon themes that I have downloaded or browse.  I usually browse to icon packager and select the theme icons I want and make my changes.

Now what do I do when I select the icons I want to use and the window comes up blank?  I know they are there because I all ready applied them to the desktop theme.  Is there a way to copy or import the icon from icon packager into the Object Dock Library Themes folder?  Am I just out of luck because they are different formats?  I'm applying an older WB Theme that has Icons for Icon Packager but not for ObjectDock.

If there is a way to do this I hope it's a simple one.

I've run into that also,Philly.I had to use a couple of png's from my OD library for icons and used Icon Developer to convert them to ico's. I don't know if this helps any.

Are you getting something like this?

If so, I and a couple people I know have experienced this as well. Not sure how to fix. I assumed it might be a 64-bit issue. Which OS are you running?

I'm running XP Home 32 bit Mirsguy, and not I don't get the problem there it's when I use the browse function in the lower left hand corner.  I browse to Icon Packager, go to the theme icons and double click the one I want, that's where I get a blank window.  I think Wizard has the fix and it's because they are different formats.

Now the question is can I take the whole themed icons package convert them to ico's in mass or do I have to do it one by one?  Once converted I take it all I have to do is move them into the Object Dock Library.

Maybe I just PM the skinner of the icon package and ask them to convert the icons, now that sounds like the way to go.

EDIT:  Okay just took a look at Icon Developer and it would appear that it can do what I asked above.  Now just need one of those Island_Dog walk throughs on how to do it, you know what I mean Vern.

Find the package in Iconpackager by brousing to it.

In Vista: C/Users/Public/Public Documents/Stardock/Iconpackager (I can't remember where it is in XP)

You will see all the folders of the packages in it. Simply right click/copy the desired folder and brouse to your OD Bundled Images folder and paste it in. Now you have the whole package to use for OD. Easy peasy.

For Iconpackages, just change the extension to .zip and extract all the icons to the desired location.  Move them wherever you want and then do the OD config deal.  Bickety Bam.  OD will use .ico but if you want them 256, you'd have to use Icon Developer to get the right size.  Most often, if I use the .ico, I don't have a display problem.  I only zoom to 128 though.  Comes down to how much work you want to invest.

C/Users/Public/Public Documents/Stardock/Iconpackager (I can't remember where it is in XP)

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Stardock\Icon Packager

go to the theme icons and double click the one I want, that's where I get a blank window

This sounds like that particular package didn't Save Package As Individual Icons Philly.  File type defaults with Image Files *.png, *.ico, *.jpg and *.tga.  If you select ALL FILES (*.*), you'll see the icon package file instead.  Or the package may be embedded into a second folder where the IP app doesn't see it correctly.

I have a couple of packages like that.  All you have to do is browse to the IP Library file, right click and open with Icon Explorer.

You should see all of them then.

Maybe I just PM the skinner of the icon package and ask them to convert the icons, now that sounds like the way to go

You've been spending too much time theme-ing Philly!

All your icons are starting to look alike!
