Problem: Windows Home Basic + Deskscapes. Help Needed
Wednesday, January 28, 2009 by C-Me | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers
Guys, can any of you help me?
1. I'm using Vista HomeBasic
2. Downloaded DeskScape
Installed and tried using it but says:
"The Desktop Window Manager is not running, DeskScape requires the Desktop Window Manager (uxsms) service to be running to function."
I'm clueless at the moment as I am new with these stuffs.
Can somehow help solve my problem and explain in detail what to do please?
Help is much appreciated, thanks..

That is incorrect. DeskScapes will work just fine with Vista Home Basic. My HP runs them with no trouble w/o any additional codecs. Where did you dl DeskScapes from, and which version?
Read my reply #13 in this thread, and see if DS works for you then. Then I suggest contacting support and advising them of your problem. They can fix you up.

Vista Home Basic does not support the Aero interface. The Aero interface is needed by Dreamscene/Deskscapes to render the video. Therefore you can not run Deskcapes on Vista Home Basic.
... Well, that was until 2.5 was released, which runs on Windows XP (which doesn't have Aero of course). Not being a programmer on the team I wouldn't know why it wouldn't use XP mode to render the vid, but at a rough guess I'd say poor OS detection routine (recognises Vista so assumes it can use Aero).
