Background image moved/misplaced
Thursday, January 22, 2009 by apollo440p | Discussion: Fences Beta
Great work, I really find it useful.
Just one issue: I am one of the few who moved the taskbar on the left of the screen. Fences seems to have problems in defining the new available desktop area, or at least it moves the background image not considering the REAL available area, so even if I say to "center" the image, it exceeds the right border of the screen. I solved it creating a new background image, but I think this issue must be solved.
Btw: I'll be happy to spread the word about Fences, BUT ONLY IF IT IS GUARANTEED TO REMAIN FREE. If it is instead intended to be a buyable product, I'm going to disinstall it immediately.

JMB1984 this app is great and if you make it one free version and a plus version with extra feats.. you deserve each coin you get! I think its a great idea. I really think this is a app that should be a standard in every os with icons and a desktop.. but also its pretty much only for organizing and hiding.. so put a small pricetag on the plus version and make everyone use it... instead of high and fewer users and branded as a novelty product.. it will deserve all the attention it will get if the price is right... then again this is just my oppinion, and i love this app.

and interesting, the plan is to keep it the way it is, but why so adamently against using it if it's not 'guaranteed to remain free'? does it provide that little value that if we wrote a bunch of intelligent features / skinning / etc as an add-on and put a tag on them as an upgrade, you'd revolt out of principal?
as the developer whose software / large amounts of thought and effort you're using for free, i'm strugging to understand.
I cannot speak for everyone but I found this topic interesting. I have Object Desktop Ultimate and Object Dock PLus. I don't see anything that urges me to buy Fences. I already have most of my needed shortcuts in tabs. They also can be hidden. Maybe if some bells and whistles were thrown in my opinion would change. I really like the idea and I do have it installed. It's not even skinnable. That I think should ba an option. Anyways I wish you good luck with it

This is a feature incomplete beta version, I don't think anyone know what the finished product will look like or what it will do... Imho it's a brilliant piece of software already, I wouldn't want to do without it.
Personally I think it should be fully integrated with Objectdock plus (Yes, Object DOCK, NOT Object Desktop). Creating "new dock, new tabbed dock and new fence" from the "My Docks" window make perfect sense. And it would make objectdock plus have a true killer feature when compared to other available docks.

do you have multiple monitors installed? or just the one. if multiple, are there addl monitors to the left of your taskbar or no?
