Remove Vista Start Menu Shadow
Monday, December 8, 2008 by LightStar | Discussion: Customization Software
Does anyone know how the remove the shadow on the start menu in Vista? I tried checking the the box in SKS that says "Hide shadow on start menu." in the Extras tab, but it does not work. Thanks! ![]()

Thanks for the try NT, but that did not work. I have also added the HideShadows=1 statement, but to no avail. Other things I have read say opening it in SKS 5 and turning the shadows off inside it and then go back and work it in SKS 6. That is unacceptable to me, I do not use SKS 5, and I would have possibly have to redo all the other Vista changes I have already done. This skin was originally done as a .msstyles and ported over using the import tool from Stardock to Windowblinds. It works great in Windows XP, but has the shadow problem in Vista.
I guess what I am saying is that when I check a box that says to turn the shadows off, I expect the shadows to be off. Stardock?

I hear you Tom. ![]()
What I suggested seems to work for me. Are all the start panel images set to semi - trans?
Also go the Start Menu and Taskbar section and on the Extra tab you will see the blur settings. Set them all to 0 and the background effect to semi.

Hi LightStar,
I don't have any problem turning the start panel shadowns on/off in here.
Try this, open WindowBlindds config windows, then open the skin folder and delete all files with the extension .wb4
then go back to the WB config window and apply the skin. (I gave this order case once you open WB config window,
the cach files are created/refreshed).
If stil fail, I can look the skin for you if you want, if you do, log in the stardock IRC and private message me with
a link where i can get the skin.
Regards.

Does your design require blurring? If not, set it to semi transparent.
