I had an idea for RightClick...other than png's, everybody already knows that one!

A suggestion for RightClick from Your friendly neighborhood garbageman.

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 by bk13GarbageMan | Discussion: Customization Software

Since the Object Desktop 2009 suggestions thread has been closed due to it's release, and because I couldn't find any other RC suggestion threads.........I made my own After downloading Night Train's WB Mama's Boy at the GUIC and taking His advice to try it out and see how well it re-colors...........I thought it would be cool if RC had a hue shifter. So if you have a WB that you re-colored and you have an RC that matched, you could re-color that too. I don't know if this was already suggested, or if it's already in the works.....but I thought I would throw it out there!

Now your asking for a lot GM...you'll be lucky of you ever see pngs implimented in rightclick.

I know, but I can't help it!  every time I try to do something different with it, it seems like I run into another wall. It's just annoying to want the arrows in a certain place and then the plugins don't fit the skin right , or having to compromise where I want to put them so that the plugins fit.

I gave up expecting any major update on RC. Its too bad though...for those of us that use this program its become a ' must have '

I agree Karen, once You become an RC user You can't go back! and hopefully since You gave up expecting an update, that means We'll be seeing one soon, because things usually happen when You least expect them!

If they update RC it most likely will only be to fix the importing of windowblind skins....which was kinda the whole point of the program. Its supposed to be self-skinning. Thank God for the RC skin library.

Actually, Since updating to Vista, I have never lost any of the skin settings or indeed anything.Seems much more stable.

It would be interesting to know for certain if any updates are actually being done though.

I wish I could say the same, but I can't. RightClick dumped my set-ups twice after I had the thing configured the way I wanted it. PITA!

I just gave up using it,since I found no way to back up the configuration,it's just not worth the trouble.I'll stick with OD+ and DX.

I've lost some settings once or twice with Vista, but, I don't think Vista was the cause. It was usually while I was working on a skin and had the menu editor, skin tool, notepad, and photoshop open all at once. Most likely I did something to crash RC.

It  would be nice to hear something!

Sorry for the late reply........It would be great if they got the importing to work, but I still enjoy skinning it, so I hope they also address some of it's limitations too.

I'm like you Fred, I'd much rather use a skin I have made or one that was skinned...thats why I didn't care that the importing skin feature stopped working. Although I have not had RC crash like it used to in a long time. Once in a while a sub-menu just disappears for no reason. But thats a far cry from when the whole menu would just go *poof*

All other suggestions aside......probably the most important update for RightClick right now, would be for it to work on 64 bit, as it is fast becomming the standard!

If they fixed the "Use Windowblind Skin" setting, RC could get the new skin color anytime the WB was changed.

True, but You would still need a hue shifter if You wanted to use a skin that was made.

After reading Object Desktop 2010: First Details by Frogboy , and Reply #1 by Zubaz in Mirsguy's Post " RightClick--Stagnant, Dying, or Alive and Well? ".........

I've got a small update for RC planned to improve how it applies WB skins.  I'm hoping to get the bug where you have to click twice in Vista64 . . but it's being a bugger.

..........I was happy to see the ball rolling.......

I was wondering once again If anybody else had some ideas for one of the most useful programs out there.......

other than png's please !

I copied the configuration from xp over to vista after installing RC there.  I made sure the same skin was in the skins folder and I think I grabbed the desktopmenu.obbar file and possibly the RightClick.ini file.  When I fired up Vista, all my shorts and stuff was on the RC, I just needed to adjust accordingly.  Somebody posted that info here on WC somewhere...can't remember who or where though.

EDIT: Here it is...see reply # 14 https://forums.wincustomize.com/161873

Thanks for the link,M1. If I decide to use RC again I will certainly use that info. Apparently this is a long standing issue with RC that has sadly been overlooked. Imo,software that makes your computer easier to use should likewise be easy to use. However, manually saving config. settings is better than not saving them at all.

Nope, never heard that one before!!!

I've done the same, but it would be a great option if You could make a backup with one button like in OD, also if You could save multiple themes.....I know that most people would probably not take advantage of it, but it migh come in handy.

However, manually saving config. settings is better than not saving them at all.

Definitely!

Not arguing that point.  It would be fantabulous if they'd do that.

I don't know how much it would weigh the program down..... how about aditional "drawing settings" ( stretch/tile points )

e.g. Left Start, Left Stop......( fancy schmancy design element ).......Right Stop, Right Start, also for Top and Bottom......to allow for centered images in the design of the skin. Of course this would be optional, and skinners could also use the current drawing settings as well, if the design did not require the center portion of the image to be retained.
