Why am I using Vista???

That's a good question, why am I using vista?
1) I hate the start menu - what a pig to use
2) That folder mouseover drives me nuts
3) It likes to randomly reset folder views to pictures, no matter how many times I set it to files
4) IconX doesn't work
5) I need a new printer due to lack of drivers, despite my printer being hardly used
6) Games are slower, much slower...
7) File copy is even slower, despite SP1 improvements
8) Some menus take ages to start up first time, I can hear Vista accessing the disk...
9) Vista insists on eating up 10-12Gb of extra disk space thanks to storing all versions of files, dlls etc for compatibility
10) I bought Vista so I could moderate Vista skins/dreams etc. I don't do that anymore.
So the question remains, why am I still using Vista when XP is so much better?
I know what I will be doing this xmas holiday...

If it were up to me, I'd take Vista out into the woods and shoot it painlessly in the back of the start menu

takes the fun out of it ... very bloody and painful would be more satisfying.
I like that Fuzzy ... is that patented? If not, may I use it?

Yeah...Just like Vista was going to be everything XP wasn't...and W8 will be everything W7 won't be and so on and so on. Marketing...don't ya just love it!!! 
XP does everything I want it to...it just works.

Oh no, time to beat up on Vista or take the piss out of it as you British guys like to say?
About the only thing that really bugs me about Vista is how it changes file prperties no matter how many times I set them to my preferences. If I set it to view in large icons, I occasionally return to find medium icons or detailed view.

No doubt I will want to be back in the future, but for now, I need my space
I run and enjoy several different OS for different reasons,and find stuff to enjoy and dislike in all, so for me it's each to his/her own.... I am pleased to take the opportunity to wish you well Deionychus, and hope you are able to take what you need from your moratorium.

The folders not remembering settings in Vista is the same damn bug they had in XP and FIXED. I just love that no one bothered to actually LEARN anything from previous OS mistakes/bugs...ahem.

Sounds a lot like the issues I experienced with OS X, 10.3.x was the last version I used. EVERY time I put the pointer on the dock I had to wait for the disk access for it to expand. Don't even think about how long the Apple menu would take to open, sometimes 10seconds or more. My guess that stuff was related to the G4 processor not being all Apple claimed...Personally I enjoy Vista all except for the UAC. The rest is quite smooth.

just wondering, has anyone tried installing vpc2007 on a vista machine and then installed xp as a vm in vpc2007? The specs for most vista machines would make XP run like a race car! Just an idea, that way you don't have to uninstall vista to use XP again, you can have both - imagine that!

A fairly recent machine will run Vista just fine...
Try this:
Vista was released November 8, 2006.
XP was released 25 October 2001.
Take a few random computers dated from ~2 years before up to ~2 years after both release dates, and use drivers released as late as possible within the respective timeframe... You'll see the same phenomenon... A computer from 2005 runs vista like crap.... A computer from 2000 runs XP like crap... Most computers that were sold with XP the first 2 years after its release ran XP like crap... Buy a new computer with Vista today, and it'll run GOOD.... I see that as an improvement.
It has been the same way every bigger leap in windows development... People complained when they released windows 95, lots of people wouldn't touch it.... Some time went by and just as Win95 started to be stable enough, Windows 98 dropped in and people were happy... People complained alot when they released windows 2000, time went by and W2k got stable, and there comes XP, the current "better OS"... They release Vista, and the complaints start... And Windows 7 will come and "save the day"...
I've intentionally skipped some stuff MS released in my story to simplify it. Frankly, I believe the other stuff is things they've just thrown out to hide the fact that Win98, WinXP and now Win7 really are nothing but expensive "service packs" (not so shocking news really....), and we who did run Win95, Win2k and now Vista basically have paid to beta test experimental software technology...
If you've read this far, I must say I admire your persistence. Good job. I don't mean to imply that what I've written is a load of bull, just that I've realised it's not really interesting... (to me anyway 
)
