Shadow delay when on Domain

I noticed the other day that while logged on to my work domain there would be a 300-400 millisecond delay in the appearance of shadows on non-maxed windows & on menus. I double-checked to see that I had not enabled the 'expand from under' function & I had not. The delay became annoying enough that I disabled the shadows.
However, when logged in to the local machine (on my home workgroup network), the shadows are instantaneous with the appearance of menus. I'm using the same menu animation in both profiles so that shouldn't be it. Odd that there would be that delay in display of shadows when on a domain.
Anyone have ideas about this?
