The first event of the 2008 GUI Championships is officially underway! Today we begin the popular vote phase of the Most Usable and Most Original Animated Wallpapers (Dreams).
Over the weekend, the judges reviewed all of the submitted Dreams (32 of them!) and cast their votes for what they thought were the most usable and the most original Dreams. Based on their votes, below are the ten finalists for the two events.
You can see Brad Wardell's scores and comments on all the Dream entries here.
Voting this year works a little bit differently than in years past. This year you have three points to distribute in any combination you like to the finalist skins. You must distribute all three points before submitting your vote however. You must also be logged into the site.
Voting goes through Sunday, November 30th, 2008. Up for grabs are Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Video Cards, software from Corel, Techsmith & Stardock as well as site subscriptions from DeviantArt and WinCustomize.

I was wondering why the contest isn't being promoted on http://dream.wincustomize.com? Actaully, the page is quite outdated with the latest news being about DeskScapes 1.1 and the fact you need Vista Ultimate.

you know., it is hard to give a fare vote in this category.., since I can’t use dreams.., well., how can I know which one is better from another one (I hope that was cleared)., I was hoping to see any link to a animated preview on each dream (or at least at one or two) but I haven't seen any.. 
...I guess I will pass this category, any vote I gave won’t be fare because I’ll just use the static image as a reference to vote

Please note, the small size prevents you from seeing all the fine details, including the starfield in the background. And it doesn't loop properly since it's only 10% of the animation sequence, but it'll give you an idea.
