help with new Vista machine
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 by warreni | Discussion: Stardock Support General
I just got a new computer w/ Vista 64-bit installed and I'm trying to put my Stardock stuff on the new machine, but I keep getting activation errors after apps download. Any thoughts?

I don't know if this helps, but this is typical of the errors that I'm getting:

Test internet data - success

Hope so. I won't be able to check again until I get home this evening, but it still wasn't working around 5 AM local time when I left.

make sure Windows Defender is disabled while you install

Hey Lantec,
Okay, I'll try that.
What is Windows Defender doing anyway? It's been giving me messages about needing to update, but when I tell it to update, it doesn't seem to do anything. Do I actually need this if I'm running Norton IS?
Thanks,
Brian

I was having similar issues when I first setup Vista.
If you're using Norton make sure it's disabled too. Windows Defender should be updated if it's asking to. It's supposed to block malicious scripts and spyware from the internet. I make a habit of turning off Windows firewall & Windows Defender when I install from Impulse, especially Windowblinds.

Well, I tried with IS and Defender disabled, and I can install some parts of ODNT, but TweakVista, DeskScapes, and WindowBlinds still won't activate.

Last I heard (which is a few hours ago) there were still intermittent issues with activations. Not every user and not every app so it's hard to nail down. ![]()
Having done my share of tech support give me a problem that stays broke any day!

I'm trying to activate WB, TweakVista, IconPackager and etc on a clean install of Vista Home Premiun x64 and keep getting errors... has been that way for 16 hours or so now. I diabled Defender and my AV but still no go... same error log as above.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon. ![]()

Update: the activation issue seems to have been resolved, but now I am getting a 'maximum activations reached' message instead, possibly because of several recent attempts. If someone at Stardock reads this and could remedy this situation I would be eternally grateful... I miss my toys, so much.

I'm good. I got home last night and had to do battle with my wireless router to get my internet connection restored (grr!), but after that I had no problems downloading and activating my Stardock apps.
