Competition for Stardock? Not yet, I think
New VS builder for Vista
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 by 2of3 | Discussion: Customization Software
I read this post (Vista Style builder) over at Neowin about a new VS editor for Vista.
The folks there seemed pretty exited about it, but as far as I can see, it doesn't come close the the skinning capabilities of Skinstudio 6.
Unfortunately there is no trial version! You are expected to buy the product untested ![]()
Opinions?

Well from the looks of it the developer put a lot of time and energy into it, hopefully he will continue to update it. I agree with most in the thread he would go a lot further with a limited trial version. But, so far those who have got it and tried it have come back with positive feedback.
Of course its never going to equal WindowBlinds but the mere fact that a 'New StyleBuilder' (so to speak) is underway/out I think is a good thing in the long run (it was for XP and the state of skinning in general I believe).

Regardless of the tool to create them, you are still limited by what you can do with .msstyles. SkinStudio is free, and you can even get the WindowBlinds/SkinStudio Pro bundle for $30.

I wonder if it will handle teh Win7 skinning engine. ![]()
The nice thing about SKS is that you know there are resources and a passion behind it to guarentee updates.
FWIW, Andreas is a very smart dude and has done some great things with skinning. If I had a need, I'd trust his work without a trial.

Yeah, Andreas' work is always top notch, BUT, you can't expect someone to seriously get behind a product without being able to try it out first. Good luck to him though.

With Stardock being around for awhile another customizing program is going to have to be pretty darn good to be considered competition. I haven't looked at this yet, but I will.
Just can't imagine anything being able to be good enough to pull away folks from here. Don't get upset, just my opinion. ![]()

Gotta agree with Bebi. Just because he did great work in the past doesn't mean this product would equal, nevermind outdo WB.
Not logical.

You know what else that I find is funny...a lot of those "zomg windowblinds is teh sux0rz, msstyles ftw!!!@!one" people usually make that rant because Windowblinds costs money. That program there costs MORE than WB or SKS, has NO trial, and does half as much, and yet they're clammoring over it and STILL bashing WB. Those people need to be whacked upside the head with the 2x4 of reality.

That's 64 Bit reality, Bebi. ![]()
You expect logic/reason from them?msstyles can't do half of what WB, etc. does yet do they prattle on.
C'mon!
Really. Haven't you learned that everything they need/want should be free or someone paying them to use. And they lack the essential, Bebi: Taste.

msstyles are fairly good for most purposes. In my experience, the only thing that they cant really do is animation.

Fail. Seriously, who in their right mind would buy something before even being able to try it out? Retarded.
