Newbie Introduction

I admit it freely, I'm a newbie and the only reason I'm here is because I want to customize my own desktop - I'm not NEARLY as talented as the rest of the people I've seen. I like to "learn by doing" and have been playing with DesktopX - being reasonably successful with creating what I want. I'm interested in finding out how to create a window within my desktop that serves as the central location for opening ALL new windows without disturbing the rest of my desktop. I've been looking and searching, but probably not in the correct places. Any help would be appreciated. BTW- I apologize for the large type - my presbyopia just makes it easier for me when I'm working. Thanks in advance for any help any of you can give me!
