Menu Item size problem

Hi everybody.
I've recently installed Vista Ultimate Edition and I'm trying to create or adapt skins to Vista. I'm still having problems with menus as well as buttons, the items aren't large enough to hold all text. In addition, I don't see separators on standard menus but they appear on popup menus (not yet skinned). This appears in the pictures below.

As you can see it's a french version of Vista. Don't know if it is important. I've searched for tips or tutorials but didn't find anything. I can reduce font size but it becomes quite too small.
Any clue / advice / solution is welcome
