CursorFX vs. CursorXP

Saturday, August 16, 2008 by NewbieDeb | Discussion: OS Customization

I am running CursorXP plus, but all that shows up for gallery download is CursorFX's.  I can not get CursorFX cursors with CursorXP.  What did I do wrong and HOW do I fix it.

In the gallery there are mixed CursorXP themes and CursorFX themes, you need to search which ones are for XP because unfortunately you can't use FX themes in CursorXP, don't really know why, but you can use XP and FX themes in CursorFX. You might wanna upgrade to CursorFX but personally I prefer CursorXP.

Sorry for all the XP and FX confusion hehe

What do you prefer about CursorXP to Fx?

I also prefer CXP over CFX. CXP was never broken for me (if it ain't broke don't fix it), and when I tried CFX, when I was typing and the cursor was supposed to be hidden, whenever I let up for a second or two the cursor would reappear, but flash as the default cursor before being skinned. That was a few months ago, but I just never saw the need to switch.

That's the way I feel about it! Cursorxp worked fine with xp and veesta. I quit cfx because when I save as the changes don't show up on the cursor menu(the main screen). I will be making all cursors with cxp, but that's OK because they work with cfx.

NewbieDeb, all my cursors are cxp except Bone Head cfx but you gota be kinda wild and crazy to like my cursors.

Every so often when I apply a WB skin I lose my CFX cursor.  Going to the CFX config and reapplying resolves it.

I've not seen it reported in the forums so I suspect it's an issue with my PC.  (

I prefer CursorXP becasue for me it's so much easier to make a new cursor, like while you're seeing the preview of the cursor, since all the animations appear at one, you can't really see them all and if it's not a looping animation you have to go back and click on the preview button again to see every one of them. There's also the important part that you can't use cursorfx files on cursorxp, and since I personally don't want to loose or let down people who download my stuff I prefer making them as a .curxptheme. Also I did not like that you can't open a cursorfx file in winzip or winrar to convert it to curxptheme. But anyways, those are just some details I see but the whole new interface is very cool and I'm sure it has a lot of other great stuff, I do have it though but for those reasons I just can't change to FX.

@ J. Aroche

I 2nd Bebi Bulma's 'eternally grateful'...

Also, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who doesn't care for the inability to open CFX files in winzip or winrar.

Plus, on the Pro version, I'd really like it if the editor was fully functional. Like, for instance, would allow you to recolor and resize on a permanent basis. Really bugs me to have to tweak my settings on a cursor set every time I change one for a preview...

I use CursorXP and I have vista.  Most cursors will work on Vista but some won't.  The ones I use work, I'am also in that mode, If it ain't broke don't fix it.

as a cursor theme skinner i prefer CursorFX becouse since i start using it i haven't get any crash during the cursor theme selection on the theme list, when i wanted to choose another theme with CursorXP most of the time it crashed (not always and not with all the themes).

anyhow, both vertions have there goods and bads

I agree, and the crashing thing is also true, but that's because there's an animation script that is too saturated (it can be fixed) but yeah FX supports you a little more on that. Both programs are great but everyone has their own likes.

And we are eternally grateful for this.

Drill'n Boss, if you have any cursor in XP that crashes CursorXP, just try loading it in another way and open up CursorXP, check the most heavy animations and check their script, if they're too big (many sentences) just remove some, find a way to make them loop the same but without that many times repeating, because that's what makes them crash. If you have any that crashes let me know which one is it and I'll show you how.

That's right! Now I remember, that's how I fixed it. Smoked too much..never mind.

Ya know what would be nice? A script format like Basic:

Dim scene1
1-5,20
5-1,20
End

Dim scene2
14-20,80
16-18,10
End

Do
For x=1 to 6
scene1
Next x

scene2
Loop

Something like that.

Quoting myself as I was looking for this answer....

You might wanna upgrade to CursorFX but personally I prefer CursorXP.

I guess I've been using CursorXP for so long and I have (had) so many cursors downloaded that I didn't want to switch.

PLUS, I really didn't know that FX was susposed to be an 'upgrade' to xp.  I actually thought it was the other way.  I too am running Vista and xp works fine - except I cant seem to find the cursors anymore.

One thing I did notice, is Trails.  I can't have trailers when I tried fx.
