Original vista style, something gone terribly wrong...
Thursday, August 14, 2008 by islascanarias | Discussion: Windows Vista
I tried window blinds to see if i could restore the original vista theme and lose the xion leftovers but nothing helps. Can someone point me to the right direction? (Other than re-installing vista).

.Revo can also clean-up without "xion" being installed at all,but I have never used "hunter mode" so that's why I say to reinstall the "xion" theme first. Good Luck.

i ran ntfs4dos (through ultimate boot cd) and copied the originals of these files:
c:\windows\system32\authui.dll
c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll
c:\windows\system32\oobefldr.dll
c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll
c:\windows\branding\\shellbrd\shellbrd.dll
c:\windows\system32\wmploc.dll
c:\windows\system32\shsvcs.dll
c:\windows\system32\themeui.dll
c:\windows\system32\uxtheme.dll
These files intervene in the browser mode of the explorer and such, i.e. buttons, etc.
case closed, all back to normal.
hope this helps other ppl.

Great job on posting the fix. This is the problem and the hassle of installing visual styles in vista. With Xp it was easy and programs like StyleXp got very popular, but because there are so many files that deal with different aspects of the theme, Style Xp just faded out i guess. I occasionally pop in a visual style if i find one i really like and end up changing a lot of systems files. (speaking of which i have one on right now)
Always create a restore point prior to changeing themes otherwise you won't know where to go back.
