BootSkin 2?

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 by spinal | Discussion: Customization Software

What ever happend to bootskin 2? I was so looking forward to having a hi-res hi-color boot screen, but it never came about.
Does anyone know are there still plans to release it?

I think that Bootskin never supported hi-resolution images because when your computer is booting, it doesn't load your graphic drivers/card/adaptor/etc and uses the default system drivers, so usually the bootskins are very small [640x480 at most].

I might be wrong. But this is what I read when I read a Bootskin tutorial somewhere on WC.

Yes but bootskin2 was going to fix that, i'm fairly sure it got accidentaly leaked, which does offer evidence that it was near completion.

BootskinPlus was built but had more compatibility issues than Bootskin.

I know of one user who accidentally got it during an SDC glitch.  She won't give it up and won't go on the skincast either.  Both are probably good choices.

On second thought, you might want to post a list of criteria needed to be eligible/interesting/talented/funny enough to enter the SKINCAST

I've had it for years...and as yet have still not 'plucked up courage' to even try it.  It was definitely not ready for public consumption so was not released.

I doubt it ever will be...

It works on my machine...was afraid to try it on this new built but no problems. Just wish the true-color boots supported progress bars.

Shame about that. I don't like idea of windows crashing and having no way of knowing, sitting ages waiting for the screen to change but nothing happening...

jafo - give it a try, the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work...

If anyone cares, i got the following reply from Stardock when i asked about it...

Hello,

At this time, there is no new version of BootSkin in active development. Although we may release a newer version in the future, there are no definite plans to do so at this time.

Which to me says they have better things to do than a new version of bootskin, so, there you go.

Bootskin IS in active development - as a matter of face, "Bootskin Pro" beta showed up on my Impulse page today, but has a download error
