WB on Vista is borked

Clean install of Vista,latest vid drivers for geforce 8600.
Took 3 tries just to get WB to install...having to disable all antivirus and windows defender was bullcrap. 
Seemed to be fine after the 3rd time but on reboot today...the wrong skin is being used,WB loaded diamond with no window skinning at all...no frames,no buttons,classic menus.
Cant go back to aero,cant change skins,cant unload WB.This is not helping me get over my dislike of Vista...or skinning it.
Havnt even launched SKS6 yet...GOD help me.

The way you installed the dual boot, my guess is when you boot into either OS, you can see both file systems. If you can....it can....

(suspicious that 2 seperate OS's on 2 seperate drives are now acting screwy after installing latest rc of WB)...hmmmmmmm?

Every website I went to said the same thing ...XP first(already installed anyway),Vista second.
Shouldnt matter at all if they are on seperate drives...my bios gives me a boot menu.
When I originally dual booted...they were on seperate partitions of the same drive...Vista was installed to the second part and everything was hunky dory...WB didnt screw up booting or choosing which os to boot to...it just wacked Vista.(and this was after blanking the dual boot drive and just installing Vista fresh)(there was at one time,2 XP's and one Vista install...all working fine...no boot issues at all)
A reinstall of WB on XP has fixed XP for now.
(the XP issue may have been caused by the cmos reset setting the clock to 2005...fixed the clock,reinstalled WB and all is good in XP land)

Sorry Vista users...I was trying to vistafy ecoLogical and then move on to updating all my older masterskins...now I just dont feel like doing this all again. 
A WB skinner HAS to dual boot and WB HAS to work on both.
Until I build a new pc(need money)...Vista will have to do without me...I'm sure it will be ok.

I just built a pc for a 'friend'...quadcore,dual sli graphics,sli memory(whatever that is),big fancy copper butterfly heatsink,26inch monitor...and this guy can barely open an email...he managed to download some virus from my space and trashed the OS in 2 weeks. 
About 1500$ total...couple a weeks ago I see one with almost the same specs for 6 or 700$ without the 2nd graphics card and monitor.

I have dual booted Vista with XP several times very sucessfully. I beta tested Vista on a dual boot with XP. XP first, then Vista works fine. But Vista will be the default OS. This too can be overcome with VistaBootPro.

Well, if you're hell bent on the dual boot, then the proper order of install is Vista, then XP....that way, if Vista takes a dive, XP is unscathed. For the life of me, I can't fathom anything WB could have done to create these kind of problems....I'm confident, we're missing something really fucking simple here.....

Ugh, sorry to hear you are having this problem.
I had the same problem when i first set up my new pc. My skin would change to the classic skin and i couldnt choose anything else. wireless mouse wouldnt work either. But it was all fixed when i reformatted it.

This was never about booting or dual booting,the conversation just went that way...I hadnt had any problems with any of that...this was all about spending 2 days setting up a smooth running Vista install and having WB bugger it up. (so bad that even uninstalling WB would no longer fix it)

Now that Vista was gone of course it left behind its boot loader crap...which somehow was set for 3 seconds to pick 'earlier operating system'.(which is funny...especially since vista was nowhere to be seen)(and was still set to default of course)
Seems MS dosnt want the words XP to be seen even in the boot selection.
So I found a terrific proggy called Vista boot pro3.3...dont let the name fool you...it also runs from XP and fixes what Vista leaves behind.
Aaaaaaaaahhhhh...back to a speedy straight to XP boot.Priceless.

That would only work if I didnt already have XP installed...or was going to add a second XP install to a partition on the same drive...or was gonna pull the XP drive out before Vista install...or...this stuff is wierd man.
MS has NEVER had their poop together on this.They assume nobody would EVER want to boot to more than one OS...or choose to use an EARLIER version of windows...sacrilege!!!

IR... I had a similar issue a while back and it had something to do with the 'Themes Service' in Vista not running. While XP seems to run WB just fine with the 'Themes Service' disabled, Vista apparently needs this service enabled to apply blinds correctly... well that's what I found, cos once 'Themes Service' was re-enabled all was well and WB's applied correctly/those selected other than 'Diamond'.
Also, I dual boot XP & Vista on separate drives without issue, but yrag is right in that you should install Vista first, then XP... cos Vista will always make itself the default OS and seems to install/run better if the BOIS is unencumbered by an already present OS. XP then becomes an independent secondary OS which is unaffected by any issues that may appear in Vista.
Despite it being contrary to MS' advice, I've noticed everything runs better this way at boot-up/in the BOIS, etc. While I've not had the problem with my dual booter, my wife had issues with her machine not seeing XP properly after Vista was installed. In this instance, however, VistaBootPro was ineffective and the issue was remedied by disabling the XP drive in 'device manager' (thus making it invisible) prior to reinstalling Vista, then re-enabling the drive and doing a repair install of XP to bring it back on-line... that way you don't lose your installation or any of your files/proggies, etc.
