Having a problem with Wallpapers

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 by Philly0381 | Discussion:

Really I tried, honest, you can believe me.

I have different wallpapers set up for each desktop, 1,2 and 3.

They show fine in the task bar with the wallpaper that I applied.

When I select either VD 2 or 3 the wallpaper is not getting applied to the desktop.  In fact it stays the same desktop as shown in 1 with all the widgets and gadets and objects that I have opened.

I know it is trying to apply the wallpaper.  How, I'm using the Diamond WindowBlind, if I select VD 2 or 3  I can see the wallpaper through the taskbar.  It's just not changing the desktop.

Under display options all boxes are marked.  Under each desktop the custom wallpaper is set to scaled.  Under advance Mode 1 is checked.  No applications are locked.  I also didn't mess with Exclusions.

There has to be some other item that is controlling this.  Could it be the wallpaper selection under WBs?

Usiually I can stumble into the fix for these things but this has got me stumped.  Any ideas?

I'm running XP Home, Object Desktop Utilmate, Object Dock Plus, Impulse..................

I had the same problem but thought it was because I was running a dream.  I changed teh wallpaper on desk one (through the window properties) and then everything worked as designed.

What happens if you set the wall paper on desk 1?

Just tried that Zubaz using windows properties. Changed it to a different wallpaper, didn't work.

It has to be something dumb that I'm overlooking.

Hey Bichur, nothing locked and no other wall paper manager other than in WBs configuration.

Are you using CuTeFTP?
It stops wallpaper change unless you deactivate Tools>Global Options>General -> explorer integration

Since I don't know what that is, I'll say no.

Hey Philly, are you running IconX, SVD walls changing and IconX do not play nice.
In fact, if you unload IconX, set up SVD, select desktop 2 or 3, then reload IconX it will revert back to wall from desktop 1.

Cavan1 I have IconX installed by not running. Just having it installed shouldn't do anything, should it?

No, it may be something else you have running that is conflicting. I know IconX does not reside on the desktop level, that may be the conflict, so it is possible that DesktopX widget/objects not on desktop level may also cause a conflict.

For myself I decided IconX was more important than virtual desktops, never have that many apps open that VD's would be of any benefit anyway.

Hmmm, never thought about that Cavan1, I think I have mine set to normal level. Lets see if that might be the problem.

Cavan1 just checked all DesktopX widget/objects and made sure they were set to desktop level. Wasn't it.

The only thing that I'm running other than Stardock stuff for customizing is Desktop Sidebar. Turned that off, wasn't it.

Guess it's time to email support and start a ticket.

Good idea. They may have a list of apps that will conflict with SVD,

I have WB, IP, IconX, CursorFX, RightClick and ObjectDock running, when unload IconX and select SVD from toolbars list the wall changes to wall for VD 1, and 2 and 3 change when select them. When reload IconX wall changes back to wall set thru WB config.

Thanks for the help folks.

I'll post back with what I find out from Stardock.

By the way SVD does work, just having a problem with it changing WPs.  (

Hey Philly, one other thing I should have checked/asked earlier, what version of SVD are you running, I am running latest beta from Impulse, 2.09c[b].010, released 6/18/2008. If you are not running the beta you may want to give it a try.

Yep running that version. When it didn't work I uninstalled, cleaned up, rebooted and reinstalled through Impulse. Appreciate you bringing it up.

Just wanted to check and see if anyone else had any ideas as to what may be the problem.

I guess that makes this reply a BUMP.

do you have your desktop icons hidden?

I just got around to trying SVD and I got the same as you... could see it change behind the task bar

my icons were hidden

unhid the icons and the walls changed as they were supposed to

went to desktop 2 (and 3) and rehid the icons and the wall reverted back to the original shown on desktop1 with just the bottom showing what it should be

Ahhh, that could be the IconX conflict, when IconX is loaded desktop icons then would essentially be hidden, I would think.

Good investigating Sir B.
