32 bit as opposed to 64 bit..

Does anyone have an opinion on whether 64 bit will run ok as opposed to 32 bit?

No problem just want to be able to access more of it..Sorry.. 32 bit only allows 4 gb's max 64 bit allows for more. Just want peoples opinion of how it will work with all other apps as opposed to 32 bit..

I ran the 64 bit version of XP and it ran great. I moved to the 64 bit edition of Vista when it came out last year and had alot of driver issues so I ended up installing the 32 bit version.
I understand that the drivers have matured over the past year so I am concidering taking the plunge into the abyss again.
Yrag...what's your opinion, have the kinks been worked out yet?

Order the DVD (10 Bucks)...do not download it. If you are hell bent on saving your settings......use the backup feature in Vista to keep 'your stuff', clean the drive, install and restore your backup.
Personally, I'd forget I ever heard of 32 bit or any installed apps I have and install everything clean.

Unless his memory problems are 32 bit doesn't see all of his system memory, then it WILL solve his problem going to 64 bit. But if it's XP your talking about I wouldn't bother.

It's Vista..Let me ask you guys a question. The computer comes with vista home premium already installed on it. I have an older Vista premium upgrade I bought at the store to go from xp to vista. I was just wondering if I order 64 bit version from it, will it work on computer that I ordered? Or do I have to do a clean installation of the 64 bit...

It has to be a clean installation, unless you are upgrading from a 64 bit OS it wont work.

Yes I concur, you must do a clean install. I was just wondering if the driver issues have been worked out for most hardware.
Since I already have the 64 bit edition, think I'll install it this week end and see how it goes. At the worst, if it doesn't work out well I can check out the complete system restore that Ultimate comes with.

If you can order dvd from microsoft as an upgrade from your 32 bit system to 64 bit, what do they give you? It seems like it would have to be a clean installation, wouldn't it?

They give you a 64 bit edition disc that you can upgrade your version with.
You can run the upgrade on the system you want to install it on from inside Windows and it will reboot and do a clean install.
Keep in mind, you can upgrade any version of vista with a vista upgrade disc.

I think you will be happy with it uless you are running it on a laptop or some branded system with proprietary dodads that might need special drivers. I have Vista ultimate 64 bit and it refuses to play nice with my scanner, but works fabulous with everything else.

Thinking about installing 64bit on my laptop..if I can dig up the drivers. Why have a 64bit system running a 32bit OS? Seems like a waste
