Can you change the 'Look In' shortcuts in the Save and Open File dialog

Hi all,
In the Save and Open file dialogs Win XP provides shortcuts to;
My Recent Documents
Desktop
My Documents
My Computer
My Network Places

in the form of buttons on the left hand side of the dialog (screen shot here; http://www.renraku.bravehost.com/images/openfiledialog.jpg ).

Is there any way to change those or add some custom links to actually useful places.

Enhanced File Dialog (part of ObjectDesktop) does exactly that. Unforunately, there is no trial version.

But is that still included with Object Desktop? It's no longer on the features list.

You can also use tweakui. It's not as good but it does lets you pick some different locations from a dropdown list.

I'm not sure if it is, it might be one of those programs that kinda got lost by the wayside, hasn't been updated in a long time. Sad though, because it's a must-have functional application.

Enhanced File Dialog doesn't show in Impulse.

But it is still in SDC!

Scratch that ...Enhanced File Dialog is in Impulse and SDC.

Impulse has a nasty habit of only showing part of the Object Desktop stuff from time to time. Here today; gone tomorrow   


Gah! forum is extremely difficult to work with today. no edit button, timeouts, slow as dirt ...   





Oh, now you show the edit button!

X-Setup pro can do this thing also.

This is where you can find that setting:
Appearance\System\Open/Save Dialog\Open/Save Dialog Places Bar

This program is not free. However you can try it for 30 days and then buy.

I would definitely recommend TweakUI like canmandeco did. I personally use it to change quite a few settings in XP and have had no problems.  Go to 'Common Dialogs\Places' and you can chose locations from the drop down boxes but you can also type in folder paths to create custom links, for example if you want to link to your pictures folder on your D:, type 'D:\Places' and you'll get a link to it in the save and open dialogs.
