DX project ideas wanted

Hey all,

 Its been a while since i posted anything new and I wanted to see if there were any "wants" out there.  As I stated in the Skincast, I like to work from a need or desire.  I have not had a lot of things that i have wanted to make lately so im coming to you.
 
 What kinds of widgets/gadgets would you like to see?
 Is there anything special out there that you might be interested in?
 Do any of you Artists out there want my help in making something?
 Any ideas at all?

 I want to try something different, but keep in mind there are things i probably wont be able to do, or wont have the time to do, but i want to see what ideas are out there.  

Keep in mind that by posting ideas here you are giving me the right to use them or not use them for anything i make now or in the future.  If i use your idea i will probably contact you for more info, or for beta testing, etc.  And for sure you will receive the first of whatever things are made from the idea.

Things which I was looking for but didnt find are... Indian weather widget and gadget taskbar or systray. I know there are some more I was looking for but cant recall them now.

You had to know that I was going to step in, right?  

I want a game.
I want a DX game.
I want something like Load Runner or Cannonball Blitz or Donkey Kong.
I want something so well commented and so clearly and cleanly built that another DXer could remix it into a new game.
I want Pinball Construction Set for DX.  

I doubt anyone but you could actually pull off such a thing but I believe you could do it. 

Or . .   you could make a weather widget and a clock.

Actually, do you have Autodesk Backburner?

I'd be nice to have a widget that tells me when my backburner render is done.

I'd like to see something skinnable(like maybe weather, or meters or something) similar to the versatility of the notepad object (or was it a widget? can't remember) that I highlighted this past week. It was nice to have a product within a product that could be skinned. Made it my own , by personallizing the look of it.

Would it be possible to do something like that ?

How bout a widget that alerts you when a new skin in a certain library is available?

Is it possible to create a mini irc thingy so you wouldn't have to open the whole program just to see if there was any activity within a channel?

I'd like to see a wallpaper changer gadget. Qx9 had some nice ones but there not here anymore. Something small maybe 3 over 3 with drag and drop.

Great Ideas all..

1. Game - I have no idea even where to begin on something like this, i have never made a game in my life. Anyone have a clue where to begin on this?
2. Autodesk Backburner - Nope, not heard of it. How does it work? does it save some file? If so it might be possible to track the file size? not sure.
3. Skinable Widget - I believe this was done a while back by sViz maybe?
A Weather widget that uses an ini file to do placement of images, as well as text, etc. could be done. Along with a scale-able PNG BG object might work
4. Library Alert: Not sure if this one is possible, you would have to poll the page and compare it, but if its not an RSS feed, the parsing would be nuts.
--- If someone at SD can tell me how to do this, ill be happy to see what i can make.
5. IRC: Not sure how that would work, as i dont do a lot with irc (what about mIRC?)
6. Wallpaper Changer: I see 3 of these on the DX Widgets page: WWW Link

How about a zoomable, loopable NWS weather radar widget based on the type found HERE (I've been asking for this for a couple years)

There are a lot of issue with weather widgets these days, something that large, im not sure how it would be shrunk down. But ill look around.

How about a widget or gadget like a viewer or picture frame except the you can view screen savers with it. You could use it like a window looking out into the world.

I made one like this that allows you to put a single photo or a folder of photos into it, as well as change the wallpaper bg, and lights on/off Link

Would that work?

None of these work on Vista and the one from Qx9 does not allow drag and drop to add your own pictures. Thanks anyway.

I dont see a way to put a screensaver into something like a DX object.. that doesnt seem possible. But you could find some animated gif's maybe? Or maybe we could get someone to make a few cool small animated pngs and make it an animated object. But it would need to stay small or else the CPU usage would go off the charts.

I dont have vista setup so i dont know how it works. I have avoided it over over a year, and since our office doesnt want Vista im not going to be able to use it on a full time basis. sorry.. I might have to see how hard it would be to load up a drive, had one a LONG time ago, but my laptop is such crap it doesnt work worth a crud. Again, sorry.

please dont take all my "no's" in a bad way.. i love the ideas, I'm trying to be realistic on what i can do at this time, and with my current level of knowledge.

Please dont hesitate to ask for anything, the worst i can say is that i dont know how to do that.. LOL

I really love the idea of a game, but man, i have no idea even where to begin on this, maybe if i knew some people that made games that could help me out, or point me in the right direction??? Im thinking of something like frogger to start playing with, to see how in the world it would even work. Dont expect much or even soon. LOL

oooh what lantec said!!
I have one weather widget (or object still not too clear on which is which.. I just dl em!) that shows radar but it would reaalllly be neat to have one that had the animation option. And zoom or region is definitely sweet .

Mirc would work just fine actually, irc is irc, wouldn't matter to me what platform you used.
I think that some of the libraries are rss feeds, I'll look into that for you if it'll help.
you wouldn't happen to know where that skinnable weather thing is located would you? I haven't seen it in my travels , and I've travelled extensively in the way back machine on here..
Actually it doesn't have to be weather, I just like the idea of being able to personalize.

I'm wondering about a Sound Scheme with a man's voice. Theirs a wonan's voice out there but alas no male. I like knowing what my computors doin. That would be Great....

Embedding a web page into DX is easy.  Maybe mibbit.com could work?
