WINDOWS 7
.... In 2 years ?

Microsoft's next operating system (OS) will come with multi-touch features as an alternative to the mouse.
It is hoped the successor will have a better reception than the much-maligned Vista OS, released last year.
Scheduled for release in 2010, the new fingertip interface lets users enlarge and shrink photos, trace routes on maps, paint pictures or play the piano.
"The way you interact with the system will change dramatically," said Microsoft chairman Bill Gates.

And I can see Bebi's puter not working very well, if at all... it'd have great difficulty concentrating on the task at hand - with all that touchy feely interaction going on... going absolutely berserk and popping a fuse or three over a *naked huggle*
Come to think of it, which I do, dontcha think that Windows 7 will give online porn (especially streaming live webcam action) a whole new meaning... er, touch/feel/sensation?
Which reminds me.... while it don't have that touchy feely thing going on, my fave puter store has a 24" Viewsonic flatscreen that keeps jumping out at me, saying: "BUY ME, BUY ME, BUY ME!!!!" At just AU$340 ish (discount for cash), I'm finding it harder and harder to resist its pleas and see my resolve weakening, sooner or later.
As for Windows 7... yeah, there'll be those that'll grizzle n' carry on about unnecessary bloat and 'useless apps', but it'll be like those who said car radios were unnecessary bloat and not essential to getting from A to B, and now happily listen to radio/CD's/MP3's while driving along in their computer controlled vehicles with power windows/drinks cooler~heater/porta potty built into the drivers seat. After a while they'll be eating humble pie and saying " how did I ever manage without touchy feely, on-screen manipulation!"

Again...I'll stick with XPMCE. With everything going up in $$$ I can barely afford gas, let alone the hous utilities. Water in CA. is going up 17 percent this July. Gas and electric have gone through the roof.
I just won't upgrade my system anymore. I'd rather eat!!

I always say to my 3 year old "Don't touch the screen"
Now you will have to?
This makes being a consistent parent impossible! Damn you, evil Microsoft!

To promote it for Microsoft just seems wrong from my perspective. By promoting Windows 7 you are helping them cover their tracks of how Vista was not ready and even Bill Gates said it was crap. Microsoft pretends windows ME never existed and they will do the same with Vista if people help them cover their tracks.
The latest Dreamscene content released by MS is a joke. One of the dremascenes actually moves/shifts on cycle. The others must have been winners in a grade school competition.
To steal a line from another commenter in another thread... I think I may upgrade to XP and take it to my grave.
/ yes, I am bitter.....

Er.... Bebi, that's why you'd install a porn filter!! Mightn't help much for chocoholics and those who crave finger food, but it may to help prevent/eliminate some.... er, well... maybe try using a protective shield (summat like a PC condom) instead....
And now for something completely different!
I'd like it if Windows 7 kept UAC but tweaked/refined it so that you don't have to keep approving 'trusted' apps that'd previously been given the OK.

or do they plan to place the screen on the desktop? then your neck would hurt after a while from looking down..

Very true. I think the only way I would like a touch screen setup would be if you had a "touchpad" type setup on the desktop where you could look at and do things but also have a monitor in front of you like now where you can also see what you are doing without staring down at the desk all day.

That's good news... but still no tea/coffee maker... food replicator (think Star Trek) to make scones, strawberry jam and good ol' Devonshire clotted cream to go with the cuppa.
***hmmmm, thinkin' about food agin.... must be about supper time, me thinks.
