Skins will not instal

I am using ObjectDock v 190 build 534 (free Version)
Windows XP Home SP2

I am unable to install any skins downloaded from here.

Every attempt appears to freeze ObjectDock, followed by the usual Windows message, and a tab to submit a report. I have done so, but have not had any feedback from MS. Not that I expected any...

I have read elsewhere in these pages that the extension .zip should be changed to dockzip. That has made no difference. I have tried by using the ObjectDock Properties/themes/import a package, and I have tried double clicking on the file. Neither approach has worked.

To say I am frustrated would be a huge understatement.

Any and all assistance would be appreciated

Are you trying to install a theme, or a dock background?

If it is a .dockzip it should install automatically when you click on it.

If it is just a normal .zip file of a background then unzip it and place the folder in either

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Backgrounds

or

C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds

I appreciate the response.

First off, I am a newbie here. Finding it much more complicated than I expected, despite the fact that I am by no means a novice at the computer in general. That's not to be taken as a rant or complaint, just providing perspective.

Nope. I followed the instructions I was able to find. Used the methods I described above. I expected the process to be automated.

I downloaded what I thought were "Docks". That is what is displayed when I select ObjectDock from the list at the right side of the pages. I guess they are themes. But there is nothing in their description or filename to tell me that.

I did, last night download a theme that worked. It downloaded as a "xxx.dockzip" and clicking on it installed it. That is my understanding of how it is supposed to work.

Here are the filenames of two of the ones that don't work:

LiquidoxObjectDock.zip

OptixDocks2.zip

These appeared to be very popular files, so I have to assume the files are not screwed up in any way.

Changing the extension to dockzip did not change the outcome. The program freezes, and eventually crashes.

I hope all this makes some kind of sense.

I am pretty sure these are themes.

OptixDocks2.kzip

I followed the procedures I mentioned in my original post. I found them on this board.

If you read the description for Liquidox you will see:

"Various stuff for ObjectDock and IconX in this package: 
Spoof (remember to back up your old one before replacing it with this) 
Running indicators 
Tabbed dock 
Zoomer dock 
IconX labels and themes 
KKMenu plugin theme "

Liquidox

That indicates there is more than just ObjectDock items in the zip file.  For the backgrounds to work in ObjectDock you will need to unzip the Backgrounds folder to the ObjectDock/Backgrounds folder on your hard disk.

Note: You will not be able to use the Tabbed one's as they are only available with the ObjectDock Plus paid version.

For the Optix one unzip the file to your ObjectDock/Backgrounds folder on your hard disk.  The tabbed version will be the same requirement (OD+) needed.

Clearly there is more that must be done manually than I expected. I appreciate the advice.
