Lowering the Start menu

Wednesday, May 21, 2008 by Spagnacious | Discussion: Object Desktop

For  those of us who like having our taskbars at the side...is there any way to get the Start menu to display lower on the screen?

It appears to be locked relative to the Start button. I have 'Molten' (which I use all the time because it works REALLY well at higher resolutions......other skinners might take note) BUT, my buddy Draggy's, wings are off the screen at the top.

HELP>>>>PLEASE!

I assume you are talking about Object Dock Plus. If that is the case then the start menu pops up in relative position to where the docklet is. So if you have a long dock and you put the docklet near the bottom of the dock/screen the start menu will appear lower. If you don't have a longer dock you can go into the settings and mess with the dock positioning. Hope that answers it for you.

Thanks Seabass but I am talking about the Start menu that appears when you click the Start button on the Taskbar. If you load Dragon and put your taskbar on the right, the dragon's wings are off the screen at the top when you click the Start button.

I don't know any Docklet that will display the Start menu in it's graphic form.

I am beginning to think I have approached the wrong forum (which wouldn't surprise me as I am old and easily confused). Is there another category that might have more knowledge about Start Menus? No insult intended.

I haven't put in a trouble ticket because I think it could easily be a Vista thing.

I responded to Seabass's kind post, that I was talking about the START Menu and the TASKBAR behavior. I don't know where Objectdock comes in but I looked at the 'Start Menu' docklet and it just gave me the 'all programs' display.

It is really easy to see. Just load up Molten (or, to a lesser extent, Dragon) and hit the Windows button. The wings are off screen....on my system.

Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

You can lower the start panel by adding transparent areas to the top section of the start panel. Add as much in height to the image that you want the start panel to be lowered. The mOlten skin has special coding that will make just that skin very tricky but should work fine.

For an example.. see what I did on this skin https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=4431&libid=1

Should have known it would be you that took the time to help me out. You have done it before when I was Clyde Park (had to change monikers to get a profile).

Thank you so much. I see what you are suggesting and I see that it will be tricky with Molten/Dragon. I will post here if I am successful so that other side lovers can benefit.

I have seen you mentor around here for a LOOONNNG time. You are an asset to the community.....but then you knew that!
