A browser question
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Internet
Everyone uses their choice of a browser to get to the internet, so this is not a question of which one do you use or why. You use what you use because it works. If it didn't you would change browsers.
My question is do you have a second browser on your computer?
Not really a simple question because if you don't like IE you load FF or something else and you automatically have two browsers. I haven't head of any people uninstalling IE and I'm not sure if you can.
So, if you have multiple browsers on your system tell us why. Is it only to provide yourself a back up to get to the internet?
Are there conflicts that can occur because of having multiple broswers?
Slow day for me, I may even come up with more questions.

FF is my primary browser. I also use Links, which is a console based browser for when I am working at a CLI level and need to access the net. It works well and if started with the -g switch will display graphics as well as text although I rarely use that as text only browsing is much faster.
Konqueror and Nautilus are also installed on my system but I use them as file managers and not web browsers.

I almost never use IE, only a couple site I go to require it, and I guess I could use IEtab extension for FF but don't bother. Otherwise I currently have SpaceTime installed because its a rather cool way of using the web, mainly in the search area, but I don't see me using it as my main browser at all.

I can tell you this. When Stardock updates our sites we
start with IE and then work our way out from there.
I personally favor FF for all the plugins I use every day with limited
troubles. From my experience in support I find more reoccurring problems with
Opera than nearly everything else. I simply use FF until some random site gives
me hassles then I often try it in IE. That generally solves it. I'm looking
forward to IE8.
For the purposes of Stardock sites if you ever have trouble with browsers always try it in IE to see if that is the case.

I have tried plugins in IE but they always seem to cause problems especially Google ones. (

A lot of the times we step back and sometimes say, "Now why am I using that?"
Functionally should have something to do with our choices, don't you think?

mmmhmm...
I use Fire Fox as my default browser, and opera as a backup browser on my system, depending on what browser I feel like using at any given time. IE was uninstalled from my system with xplite because I've always hated it, and yes you can removed it, but I did it the stupid way... To date I haven't had any conflicts due to having these browsers installed on the same computer, or the lack of microsoft's default IE browser. Overall, my system runs smoothly...

I have heard that before. I too have had problems but I have a system now based on the plug ins I have already running in FF. I fear change.....
Have you tried simply clearing the cookies then logging back in yet? Does that problem with rating skins apply to all skins you try to rate?

I've got four whole browsers, and strangely, I use all of them.
Ranked according to usage:
1. Apple Safari- my main browser, loads up pages faster
2. IE7- Usually for Windows Updates or when I find Safari incompatible with web apps.
3. Firefox- self explanatory fondness
4. Flock- for Facebook
I used to have Opera too, but it didn't work out and I kind of uninstalled it

most of my other browsing is done with either FF 3 or Minefield.
IE7 i only use for microsoft update as to be honest it's the only thing the browser does well
I also have safari, avant, Flock and Maxthon on my system each with different homepages.
call me anal but it saves time lol

Oh yeah. Haven't used it in so long that I forgot I had Flock installed also. Works well with Photobucket.
