rightclick problem

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 by rustysam | Discussion: Customization Software

rightclick has stopped working.   After using it for several months, it has stopped working.  i right-click on my desktop and nothing happens.  I hve repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed thru impulse, rebooted etc. and I can't get it to work.  Has anyone had a similar proglem?

rustysam have you tried the normal right click function of windows, (close Stardock's Right Click program) and does it work?

If so maybe the Right Click program is borked. When you uninstalled did you reboot before reinstalling? I know, silly question but a lot of people forget to do that. If you did then try using SDC to reinstall and see what happens.

What OS are you running?

running winXP When rightclick is uninstalled the normal menu appears, but when I reinstall righgtclick, when I rightclick on the desktop, all that appears is a tiny square where the top of rightclck menu should be..i'm really unhappy it does not work now, as it has become my program launcher of choice, although I also run objectdockplus,

rustysam I'm running XP also.

Did you try reinstalling with SDC?

Have you made any other changes in your computer that might account for this problem?

Can you post a screenshot of what you get when you run Right Click?

Sorry for that reboot question, I just reread you post. DOH!

I'll bet just about anything that the RC config got messed up at some point, leaving the menu 'empty'.
Rightclick on the RC systray icon and select "Edit desktop menu..."

You'll see that the right box (Active elements) is probably empty.
Just start adding new items and you'll be good to go with a fully visible RC menu again

(Hint: make a backup of the RC config file (desktopmenu.obbar) when you're finished, just in case it gets messed up again)

right column has items in it. I'm ready to give up on this program.
Now rightclick menu consists of icons across top of it.

Oki

Try this:
Uninstall RightClick. This time, manually make sure that the RightClick folder has been removed during the procedure.
There may be some old files messing things up.
Then reinstall - alternatively in a different folderm if possible. (just to be on the safe side)

If this doesn't help, I suggest you email SD Support with your problem; [email protected]
I'm sure they'd be able to help you.

SUCCESS! finally. I deleted the entire rightclick folder after uninstalling thru impulse and rebooting. I then re-installed rightclick thru impulse and now it seems to be working. All i have to do is rebuild my menu now. Thank you snowman and philly 0381. You guys are tops.

Rustysam, please keep in mind for future reference..if you ever update RC..leave the application running during update process or you will find yourself with a blank menu again.

Also, after you customize your menu (each time) backup the entire RightClick folder so that you don't lose the customizations.

Unfortunately, this happens frequently. Sometimes the whole menu is gone, sometimes it's just one or two items. Follow the advice of copying/backing up the right click folder.

This app is on the list of things to get updated, but I have a feeling it's far down the list.
