Hyperdesk

So with Hyperdesk just around the corner, is this finally some competition for WindowBlinds? How well will TSF and Stardock play together? I know TSF used to contribute here, but they don't show up much anymore, at least with content. I'm anxiously awaiting the release and can't wait to see DarkMatter. Hurry up Jeff.
What are your thoughts?
*UPDATE: Hyperdesk is live. Go check it out and leave your constructive comments about it here. (Notice I didn't say "only leave your good comments or bash it". Constructive comments can be positive or negative but should be supported with facts.)

I want to say some things,
1. System Icon Missing ? Who cares ? How many ? Most people do usual and common activities. What matters is overall impression with combination from skin, icon, widget, etc.
2. How much do you guys pay for WB, Icon Packager, and the remaining transforamtion application ? And not to mention the additional price for the additonal content. From what I've seen, Stardock application so called technology doesn't apply much in the preinstalled content. It's the additional content that matters and that means additional price. HyperDesk price is good enough with its all around content.
3. It's cool. Every skin application is cool, but at the later times people get bored. However, it will be less boring if there is combination. Combination compensates what others lack.
4. Bugs ? Error ? Old technology ? What is sure is even WB has graphic corruption (I've above decent computer 4 WB requirement). It's unstable in long term use of PC. What people want is how beautiful it's not the technology who gets boring at the later time. After all, every skin for WB has one fact, underneath it's all the same with variation this and that. XP is old too.
5.Keep your manner WB guys, I've taken a serious misinformation and disregard here. Competition is good and please be fair in assessing. Don't hide facts and just give little detail or direct what people think in the wrong direction. Good comparation gives value to customer.
6.Media player ? Winamp ? Itune ?
Most people nowadays use Media player and media player classic not Winamp. Itune in fact doesn't offer much either. I see the reason why WMP is chosen. It's simple and spacious and not too much complicating features. After all people just want to hear song from their library while catch the eye. Not many peole want to install additional softwares (u know the reason from simple to advance). The decision for WMP is appealing. Oh, winamp skin is included.
7. It's elegant, the hyperdesk and simple.

Just the Sony theme, the payware ones aren't flat and unskinned.

Ah, ok then.
GeekRulez, I've never had a problem with any Stardock products, and I run a lot of them and have been for 4 years now over 2 machine builds, no instabilities here. And I also exclusively use Winamp, always have, always will.
As for #2: Hyperdesk would only really be a competitor to MyColors, which is also a theme manager that applies a Windows skin, icons, wallpaper, and gadgets. They run $20 (or $10 for ODNT subscribers), and come fully skinned and work for XP AND Vista.

Yap, 20 bucks...
How about the price of the content ? The excellent ones.
You don't have problem ? I do. To get product distributed, it's must be mostly compatible not just for some people of the world.
Wow, the payware is fully skinned ... Thanks 4 the info.
Should buy..

Most everyone I know

It's been resolved. Please see the post before me. The payware doesn't have the issue. The free does have. Advertising tactic.
And, oh yeah, a little missing icons don't add much weight. Most everyone u know ? How many of them compared to people of the world ? Skin community is good, but the fact is a lot of people outside know about skinning too.

Oh.. the Pay themes are fully skinned and have full iconsets?? Ohh.. well why didn't you say that??
Silly me... Screeny please

Oh now we're 'stardock guys'. Love hyperdesk or you're a stardock guy. and I suppose the people who criticize WindowBlinds themes are all hyperdesk guys now?
Hyperdesks problem is that it is the phantom menace of skinning. It was hyped but endlessly in screenshot teasers for months and months and when it shows up you end up with a really fancy pretty website that when you download the one free 'hypertheme' it turns out to be a pretty mediocre, buggy, theme.
Can any 'hyperdesk guys' honestly say that the free sony theme is even as good as an average visual style you can find on deviant art? It's no where near as good as one of Studio28's skins.
Like Phantom Menace, hyperdesk isn't terrible, it's just not very good and because of the hyperhype its makers gave it expectations were higher. All I can tell is that the Hyperdesk guys are very good at making pretty screenshots and fancy websites.

What a load of crap.
I can buy Object Desktop for $50 and get thousands of skins and themes, gadgets, widgets, more for free.

Funny thing is....Kol/studio28 is the person who made the hypersuites.
Reply #234 Tuesday, July 29, 2008 7:39 PM
It's also been around A LOT longer, if HyperDesk was around for the amount of time lets say ThemeManager was then they'd have thousands to choose from as well.

There's like dozens of WB3 skins that look better than that. Hope that's not a pay one.

I agree, same with Vista without proper folders.1/4 done is worse than not done at all.
Lucky me,I have Vista-no Vista hyperdesk anytime soon.
But still with the same limitations,x1,000's,while WindowBlinds continues to innovate, improve and evolve.(Did I mention it works with Vista?)
And one other point, before I go.People are free here to voice their opinions and complaints about Stardock products. It's something I've come to respect the company for.Feedback, both good and bad is a vital part of product development, imo.Only a company that has no interest in its customers or the future of its products would want to ignore it.

What I'm reading here in this post is that Hyperdesk seems to fall short in matching the capabilities of Stardock.
