Cursor FX Plus Control Panel Not Responding in Vista

Wednesday, April 9, 2008 by Gelabert | Discussion: Stardock Support General

As of the latest update for Cursor FX Plus, which I obtained through Impulse (the best thing since sliced bread), I cannot change my cursors. When I run the program all I get is a busy cursor changeover when I try to click on the panel and the message: program not responding. It previously ran just fine. I uninstalled and installed again through Impulse but still have the problem. I am running the same version on my XP machine just fine, which I run in tandem with Multiplicity Pro, the killer app of all times.

My Vista is a Duo Core machine with Nvidia GE Force 7500 LE.

Thanks for your help!

I can't seem to replicate this problem. So it is a fresh install of the software. Once you change the cursor it crashes? Or will it crash upon start up ever? Also 32bit or 64bit? What version number does it list for you?

Thanks for the interest people. My Cursor FX version is 2.00.013. The machine is a Vista 32 bit. I rebooted as well but that doesn't seem to help. I am only getting this problem as of the most recent update of Cursor FX Plus. Before that it was working fine.

When I reboot the machine, i get Cursor FX running fine and I even see my trails and effects. If i call up the program though, I then cannot choose another cursor since the window whites out and i get the message; Program not responding. At that point i just have to close the add via task manager.

Thanks for your help!

How are you launching the app?  Try going through control panel.

I tried launching from Impulse, from a short cut on the desktop and from the control panel. All the same - cannot click on anything on the window.

I hate to suggest this but have you tried uninstalling, restarting, then installing a fresh updated version through Impulse... and then restarting again yet? Might cure what is happening. I can't get the same thing to happen on this end.

OK Seabass. I will try your suggestion. I'm hoping and praying that will work.

OK, ready for this? This is how it got fixed: I uploaded a new cursor package and double clicked on it to use it (as opposed to going through the control panel). The cursor got changed OK, then I was able to open the control panlel without any problems and choose any other cursor!

Funny, huh?

Didn't need the whole uninstalling, rebooting and installing routine, thank God! Whew!

Thanks guys for hanging with me.

Ok then... Hey I am just glad it is working. However I would like to check it out some more. What cursor were you using in the first place and what one did you switch to?

Beat me to it... I had the same issue when I first installed CursorFX Plus, and came across this fix completely by accident as well - double clicking on AVMan's Turbine cursor did it for me - so was going to suggest trying that prior to uninstalling/reinstalling.

Glad to see you got it running OK.
