Dreams and Memory Usage
Wednesday, March 12, 2008 by liquidguru | Discussion: Object Desktop
When I use the latest dreams, Copper Pool, Exotic Plasma and Grassy Field, my Explorer.exe memory use goes up from a normal 50Mb to over 100MB and the explorer.exe CPU usages gets higher too (higher than the dwm.exe CPU usage).
Desktop Earth and Water Dream are better, only increasing the explorer.exe to between 64Mb and 75MB.
This happens both with WindowBlinds running and not running.
Also the latest version seems not to remember my Water Dream settings. If I set another background for the dream, then change to another dream, then back to the Water Dream, it has returned the background to the default sand background. The previous version of dreams remembered my background settings.
As I use the Water Dream this is not really a problem, but thought the info could be useful.

I really don't have any issues with the dreams not working correctly, just thought it was strange how some dreams use a lot more explorer RAM.
The (now) much more annoying problem is that DreamScapes no longer remembers the Water Dream settings for which wall I use and the tiling setting after I have rebooted. It worked flawlessly is the previous version of Dreamscapes, but not in this one. I manually have to reset my wall whenever I reboot.
Latest (from manufacturer) video drivers installed and no problems with viewing any video content in any player and no problems with the large amount of video editing I do.
I'll revert to the previous Dreamscapes which worked well.

This happens after a reboot too. The Water Dream defaults back to the sand background and forgets my 'Tiling' setting.
