Can Plus trails work with FX?

I am very fond of some of the old trails I used to use, and while the new trails and effects are nice enough, they don't really suit my current desktop. Is there some way to import the legacy ones, like older cursors?
When I installed FX, the trails imported as if they were cursors. They have no preview, and selecting them simply reverts the cursor to default. I otherwise like the upgrade, but I'm sad to lose content that it seems like there might be some way to convert, even manually.
