Problem with SoundPackager

Thursday, February 21, 2008 by Matches_Malone | Discussion: Customization Software

I hated to create another post concerning the same issue.  I was just merely going to reply to it but it has since been deleted or I could not find it.  Anyhoo, I'm a having a serious issue with the soundpackager program.  The program stops working upon loading I tried to Run As Administrator and didn't work.  I emailed Stardock Support and here is the answer:

BTW Can someone break this down to me, I tried to figure this out and couldn't. (

Could you give us some more information about your system? Press and hold the Windows key, press R and type the following into the Run dialog:
dxdiag :I did that

Once everything loads, please click the "Save all information" button and attach the output file in a return email. :I did that too

Do you get any error messages of any kind? No

The percent symbols you're seeing are windows command-line variables (to access common paths that may be unique to each system, for example, the path C:\users\gothamenterprisesheadquarters). Just put that entire path into Start->Start Search and you should be able to bring up the folder. :What percent symbols?  I did not see any.

Please first do the following:
-Remove all soundpacks in %allusersprofile%\Application Data\stardock\SoundPackager :There is no soundpack folders
-Delete %userprofile%\Application Data\Stardock\SoundPackager :Only user profile I see is my user profile [Delete that?]
-Go to the C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\SoundPackager\Skin directory and rename
SoundPackagerSkin.dll file.  : I did see a folder within Soundpackager called Skin, I renamed it nothing happened same problem.

Try launching SoundPackager again. Does it load? Yeah it loaded and then stopped again
Note: Use 'Alt+Space, c' to close out of it if it loads. It closed out before I had a chance to do it.

Help please! (

If you emailed support you should have a case with them.
Take a look at https://www.stardock.helpserve.com

Yes, I do have an open case with them. That email was sent to me today. I was trying to figure out what it all meant so I could solve the problem myself. And just to see was I doing anything wrong on my part.

What percent symbols? I did not see any.

%allusersprofile%

They are at each end of the word alluserprofile. The example given was not very good.

-Remove all soundpacks in %allusersprofile%\Application Data\stardock\SoundPackager :There is no soundpack folders

open Windows Explorer > you should have a box labeled "Address" (if not click View>Toolbars>Address Bar) > type in the box the following: %allusersprofile%\Application Data\stardock\SoundPackager > then hit enter > you should see the tree below show the Soundpacker folder and the left side any files in it

note that on my machine (XP) the soundpacks are in MyDocuments/Stardock

-Delete %userprofile%\Application Data\Stardock\SoundPackager :Only user profile I see is my user profile [Delete that?]

yes

Go to the C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\SoundPackager\Skin directory and rename
SoundPackagerSkin.dll file. : I did see a folder within Soundpackager called Skin, I renamed it nothing happened same problem.

read more carefully....rename the FILE (not the folder) SoundPackagerSkin.dll to something else say..... sps.old

Try launching SoundPackager again.

When you've done it all, send a NEW email with the dxdiag.txt file attached and the results to the address the support email came from.

Hope this helps
