Porting AikonXP to Vista WB

if someone has time to port a style to Vista

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 by tridy | Discussion: Vista Customization

Once upon a time there was StyleXP and there was a community pack that had AikonXP Style for Windows XP. And there was uxtheme patcher and life was good.

By the way I wondered what does Aikon actually stand for. And then I realized that the person who did the skin was a fan of Nokia and therefore if you read from right to left, you will get Aikon >> nokiA.

Anyways, this skin was the reason I purchased Window Blinds, thinking it would be a relatively easy task to port Windows XP style to Windows Blinds or there should be someone who liked Aikon as well as has ported it to WB already. However nothing like this exists and I tried to do it myself. Later on, I really lost my patience in figuring out how SkinStudio works and which software to use to make transparent tga files and how in a world does the skin know how to split the image into several images that would take different states of the button, for example. There are no video tutorials about that and I really do not have time going through the manual of the SkinStudio.

Let's say I do not have enough time for that and it is not as simple as I thought. I managed to import the skin into SkinStudio but it really requires some work to be done before it will look pretty in Vista. So, I am looking for someone who has some free time and could do some work and make this style pretty with transparency and Vista ready.

I did not manage to find the email aor/and contacts of the author of this skin to ask if he would allow to use his work or if he himself/herself is planning to do a Window Blinds theme. I know there is Aikon style for Trillian and some other applications but I haven't seen a normal port of Aikon into Vista/WB.

So, if anyone is ready to take over this skin, please send me an email
tridy[dot]net[at]gmail[dot]com, I will send you the WB package with the skin that is waiting for some work to be done. Until then, here is a preview of the style:

This would be crucial for someone wanting to upload/share the work. If you do it for yourself with no plans to provide the content to others then there's no problem.

What might work best is to get help from some of the master skinners here so you can "finish it" yourself. You can also try skinartistry.com as they have a great workshop for new skinners.
